Yep, You're right Dave, we have no business beating Wet Toast, but do you remember way back in '05? First versus last? We were stone motherless after 8 with the worst percentage, our only bright spot being the round 3 20 pointer over Carlton. On top of that we were without our great champion, Buckley, while West Coast were undefeated, clear on top with a vast % in the 140's.
I remember being so pissed off I didn’t even watch the first half, flicking it over and being stunned to see us up by a bit at the half, "That won't last", I thought, and sure enough they caught and passed us in the 3rd. We were being belted by the likes of Cousins, Kerr, Cox, Embley and Co. and I had no doubt it would continue, but decided to face the horror of the last quarter, just in case.
Sure enough, A rampant Blake Caracalla, supported by awesome showings from Licca, Burnsy, & Brodie Holland, and helped out by young kids like 5th gamer, 18 year old Travis Cloke, and first year chances Nick Maxwell, and a chubby looking kid called Dane Swan, piled on seven in the last to snatch the most unlikely win of the new millennium, and it seemed to breed confidence in a young side, who then knocked over Hawthorn the following week to finally get off the bottom, before taking out second placed Geelong to get within a game (and percentage) of the 8. Was this the big comeback?!
No,
Melbourne brought us back to earth the next week before a heartbreaking 1 point loss to Sydney ended our finals hopes and took the breeze from our spinnaker. After that there was just 1 more win, and we were lucky to avoid the spoon by a mere 2 points.
But for a few weeks we were right back in it, maybe one less missed shot against Sydney might have kept the flame alight, but it was clear that the loss broke the back of our charge.
Still, we would jump right back up to playing finals the season after. We were even top of the ladder at one point, and beat most sides by huge margins in the first half of the year. But a horror second half meant we lost the double chance, and we'd have to wait 4 more years before glory found us, but find us it did, and I truly believe it started on that overcast Saturday afternoon at the 'G when an impossible win rekindled hope in the broken hearts of every Magpie on earth.
Doncha wish you had a tenner on us that day?! We musta been paying double figures at least!! _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

I think so far this season has shown that anything can happen, and I wouldn't rule out entirely a Collingwood win...even though it's very unlikely. My dad was even talking at the footy today about a small bet on Collingwood winning that game because of the return.
No bet was made, but, there's always a chance of a win. _________________ Ðavâgé

8-1 is way too skinny. Take the 11-1 for a win 1-39 points on Crownbet. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

We're back in to 6.50
Looks like the late money is going on the pies!
(nah, not really, just a lot of Pie fans taking the $8, who could blame them!?) _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

Was Rocca playing that game in 05? I remember a really good win over them where Rocca dominated the 2nd half, but it may have been the following year....
Agree that 06 team is vastly underrated, we were flying at one stage and looked the deadset goods, just missed the 4 on % didn't we? _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"
