In the pre game thread I predicted a Pies win 130 to 60 I wasn't far off. Surely we have to be happy with that? Only disappointing part was seeing Varcoe miss the second half. I believe if had not been injured we might have won by 100 points! _________________ Cheers big ears |

There was no spirit or energy all day, not even when Cox kicked the opening goal. As for dropping Cloke, this was a disaster. We had no big blokes contesting marks all day. There is no doubt now that Bucks has to go. |
We contested well without Cloke and Cox gave a good effort in the air and on the ground.
How does Cloke deserve a game next week? |
He doesn't really. To bring him back in would defeat the purpose of dropping him in the first place. |
Depends what the purpose was. Do we know? If it was just to jolt the team and Trav himself then he could very well come back in. We have a massive challenge next week and we really do need our best players playing. I expect he'll miss another, but I don't think it's completely unrealistic to think he could play. If our VFL side continues to perform as it did on the weekend there is no point him playing there anyway, would have had far more opportunity in the seniors this week. _________________ Well done boys! |

Cool
Although there are only two 2-3 sides. The other is Port and really, a wet tissue is better than Port |

Yep, why does it take us to be in crisis for the players to respond. That's the bit that has me perplexed. |
I don't think today was a response to crisis. We've been slowly building since our worst game in round 1.
It was a very good win. Sure, only Essendon but that is their biggest loss for the year and the first half was brilliant footy. Mentioned in the pre-game that they won't be as bad as the worst teams in recent seasons as they are not young or inexperienced. They'll be competitive, so that first half was great and certainly better than expected.
For Smith to get as much of the ball as he did on debut is terrific, though he did make a number of mistakes. Cox did a couple of things, enough to show that he's a chance to be an AFL player. Sidebttom's first half was near perfect, Pendlebury back in the middle and back to somewhere near his best.
The big one for me was Adams. This is the Adams we want to see: 36 disposals, 14 of them contested after only 4 last week. Need him in tight winning the ball, not on the outside. Still didn't see enough of him in the centre square, but this was his best game of the season by a mile. |
Nah.
Essendon have already fired there best shots for the year and will only get worse IMO. |

Nice to win, given our form this past month.
Great to actually see us kick a score for a change.
Disappointing to lose the second half though. |

That assumes we were actually in a crisis rather than just playing below expectations. I haven't heard anyone from the club using the word crisis, just a few footy forum posters and some media looking for something more than exists. |
Just because no one uses the word, doesn't mean it isn't true. Many teams don't mention finals but we all know they are striving to be a part of them. |
Most sides mention finals. |

We'll see. They don't have the young bodies of most bottom teams, so could be able to run out a season. Their main problem is the fact that their list is cobbled together, so potentially they could improve as the year goes on. _________________ Well done boys! |

Not having Varcoe is going to hurt us bad we looked a different team with him not out there
I'll say it again

What after leading by 76 points at half time? The game is played over 4 quarters, not 2. But hey, still glad we won, but let's show perspective here.
Yes, the first half was productive, and probably beyond our expectations.
The second half, when Essendon responded, was really nothing short of a shit fest, with putrid disposal, and excessive bludging by the forward line AGAIN. |
This was Essendon's biggest loss of the year. We badly missed Varcoe in the 2nd half, and in truth, we probably cruised a bit late in the game.
You ought to get out a bit more and smell the roses Dyso old son. Today was a game to enjoy. |
