I don't think I ever accepted it, and still haven't. Smacked too much of a knee-jerk reaction taken in the aftermath of a disappointing loss. If we'd won that game (and it's hardly as if Shaw lost it on his own), I can't help but wonder if he would still be on our list now. |
The thing is it wasn't just that game, it was most of the year (though it pretty much was him that cost us the win). I had turned off him well before the finals and was surprised, but glad, that we decided to move him on. Now that the memories of his awful final season have faded, sometimes I get the feeling it would have been good if we'd done things differently, but it doesn't last, he dug his own grave.
The final outcome was definitely a medium to long term positive for us. Adams is a quality young footballer and will be around a lot longer than Shaw. _________________ Well done boys! |

It reminded me of why we traded him. |
Yes, and Harry is still capable of making major fuckups with the ball, as he did with us time and again. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I wish we grabbed Lockett instead of sticking with Sav, there's another flag lost. |
Yes, and Millane may or may not have gone on to coach the club in some capacity, as well as hold the captaincy from 1992.
And we can thank Wayne Richardson for vetoing the Lockett deal, as he had the deciding vote. We would have made the finals at least from 1995-1998. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Overall, still think we made the right decision on this one, don't forget, Heath was beginning to loss the plot in his final year, most supporters were quite happy to trade him out while he still had value. |
Even Heater admitted that Heater needed to grow up. Probably burnt too many bridges at the club for his pride to allow him to do the maturing.
Anyway, without the Heater/Adams trade, we'd now have a first dibs contingent of Greenwood and Josh Thomas. People here would throw up Williams and Crisp as possibilities but they aren't capable of the role. |

I'd rather have Varcoe and Adams.
I actually thought Adams was close BOG yesterday, and Varcoe's absence in the 2nd half was a big reason why we lost our run. |

Given that he doesn't seem to be having any problems at GWS and in fact is employed as a p/t coach and mentor to the young blokes, do you reckon that whatever problems he may have been having at Vic Park were all his fault? |
Yes.
I am sure he would be the first to admit to it too. _________________ © The Dude ®

Agree. Why is that people need to find horror stories in these types of trades. Heater to GWS was good for Heater, good for GWS, good for Collingwood. And the club was able to look after a favourite son as much as possible while doing the trade. Can't ask for more than that. |
