Surely it should at least be next goal wins. |
Yep and at the end of extra time play should restart in middle, none of the other 5 periods continues without a siren.
As it now sits potentially one club could need a behind with the ball in their forward 50. Huge advantage. |

I guess from a Pies point of view, I have to ask that if this rule was brought in from the beginning;
1. Could we have won 1977?
And
2. Could we have held on in 2010? |
I reckon if we had have played extra time in 2010, we would have lost. We were just about out on our feet. |
Not right. Watch the last 10 minutes again. We had 6 of the last 7 shots at goal.
I think it's the best thing the afl have done for a long time. Much better to have it decided on the day. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |

I attended both drawn Grand Finals and both replays, 1977 and 2010. The lost replay in 1977 felt worse than GF losses in 80 and 81 because I knew we had nearly won it the week before. (The loss in 79 felt worse still but that was because we had actually been robbed of a victory that we deserved to win)
On the other hand the 2010 replay victory felt even better than 1990 because we had nearly lost it the week before.
I think that we should demand that the AFL does not scrap the replay. _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |

Only 3 times in VFL/AFL history (1948 was the other).
I remember feeling totally gutted in 1977 and 2010 at full time the first week. I think we would have won both in extra time.
I would prefer extra time rather than a replay. There is so much emotion and passion invested in the GF that I would prefer a result there and then.
Golden point seems a bit arbitrary, but so does penalty shootout.
Trivial aside: 1977 was the first year both the VFL and NSWRL GFs were televised live, and both were draws, and both had replays the following week. Of course last season's NRL GF was decided in extra time. _________________ Magpies forever.

It could have been worse - they could have introduced a rule that the game would be decided on penalties. |

A replayed (or rematched) AFL Grand Final represents a huge financial bonus for the AFL and the competing clubs.
Nevertheless, the AFL has discontinued the Grand Final replay, on the principal of fairness - a Victorian team would be advantaged if its opponent had to travel to and back from interstate.
So, whether we agree with that principle or not, we have to admit that the AFL has ignored financial considerations.
Those people who whinge that the AFL is only interested in money should take note. |

here here. I experienced my one and only GF (winning) thus far courtesy of the draw. I only had a basic season ticket at the time which obviously doesn't qualify you for GF's but the draw meant that all members had equal access to tickets because less corporates were granted tickets.
I remember the MCC members not being full though and couldn't understand why you wouldn't go out of your way to fill it up with real supporters who would've happily paid the money to sit there..
Anyway, it was a day I'll never forget - especially Heater's smother on the llama running into an open goal. That was the GF won right there. That pivotal moment which turns everything.
It's a shame the replay has been disposed of now. It's unique and only ever happened 3 times in the entire history of GF's which means the likelihood of it ever happening again would be very rare. |
Fully concur and agree. Bloody Fitzpatrick looked pretty sheepish to me on tele, its obvious this has been done as a sop to the Interstate teams, and this golden point thing is utter crap, even a rushed behind should not count, it should be a goal or nothing. Only had 3 draws in well over 100 years, yet another tradition shot down by a grubby moronic League ex scum honcho. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Terrible decision and making change for the sake of it. If it was 2 WA teams who drew imagine how big a replay at their new showpiece stadium in Perth (when completed) would be. |

That DVD is still in the wrapper, never been opened or played.
I was at that game and I was gutted when it was a draw, so much so I didn't go to the replay and watched it at home on TV. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I loved the fact that we got an extra game that year.
An extra week of footy can only be a good thing.
I hope they don't change it. |
