I desperately searched for a township called Know without result

Coaching candidate #4 - Leigh Tudor

Leigh Tudor played 68 games for North Melbourne and Geelong between the years 1989-1996.

While Tudor didn't have as distinguished a playing career like other candidates he was part of 2 grand finals sides in 94/95.

Tudor entered coaching within AFL ranks with Geelong in 2005.

He would coach the Geelong VFL side to the grand final in 2006 before going one step better and winning the premiership in 2007.

The Geelong senior team would also win the flag that year.

At the end of 2008 he joined St Kilda and was an assistant under Ross Lyon as they made consecutive grand final appearances in 2009/10.

In 2011 he would join former teammate John Longmire at Sydney and would be midfield coach in there 2012 premiership season.

In 2014 he joined North Melbourne and would once again be the midfield/transition coach.

They made the preliminary final in that season as well as 2015.

While Tudor isn't your high profile or "sexy" choice he's certainly put together an impressive resume and has been involved at clubs during successful periods and an assistant to some of the games most highly regarded coaches.

THIS!!

SIMON LLOYD’S FOOTY CV

Hawthorn development coach, psychologist and player development manager (1998 — 2004)

Collingwood high performance manager, psychologist and specialist coach (2005 — 2009)

Fremantle senior development coach and assistant coach (2010 — 2015)

Geelong director of coaching (2016 — now)

Lloyd has worked at Hawthorn, Collingwood, Fremantle and now operates as Geelong’s director of coaching, a role that was created for him and has been likened to a coaches’ coach.

“This guy is a qualified psychologist, has done all the different roles in footy, wants to be an AFL coach, (and) he has a relationship with people existing at Collingwood,” Connolly said.

“He’s gone through three rebuilds at Hawthorn, Collingwood and Fremantle that have gone from the bottom of the ladder into premiership contention. In fact Collingwood won a premiership.”

Having a recommendation from Connolly would normally disqualify the candidate, however on this occasion I think he is spot on.

Gut feel is I think he would have some concerns about coming to Collingwood, given the personalities/dynamics/allegiances of senior club figures.
Still the salary, and opportunity, must be virtually impossible to knock back.

He is high on my list, and my favourite of those without AFL senior coaching experience.

I'd be thrilled.

How about this one? like most contenders, a better record than Buckley - made a grand final...

However the media thinks he should go...

But yet another contender, leaving aside the infamous Mark Thomson...

So it looks like, if we really wanted, we could get a top professional coach, instead of shoving more and more chips on the roulette table, as we have done for the last 7 years.

There's no substance to that report. Simpson isn't going anywhere... some of the WCE players on the other hand, will be gone.
The oldest list in the AFL could see as many as a dozen moved on.

I love it what Kevin Sheedy had to say about Paul Roos. One premiership by one kick. And a few of us here want Paul Roos at Collingwood. Says it all.

I'm happy enough for it not to be Roos, although I do think he would set good foundations for us to build from - he's more a long term fix. But regardless, unless both he and Eddie are lying through their teeth... he won't coach us, at least directly... he could still have some capacity in making choices as Eddie values his opinion.

Interesting times my friends, anything could happen... but hopefully we don't get dealt more of the same.

Normally, when building a "weapon of mass destruction", the intention is that the "mass destruction" occur elsewhere. Our WMD, unhappily, seems to be doing its work in our own backyard.
