Post subject: Umps disgraceful today | |
|
I know this will sound like sour grapes but the blatant cheating by the umpires at the game today was absolutely disgraceful it was so bad I even had to laugh a couple of times at the absolute howlers the umpires were making and the dumb Hawthorn supporter sitting there are going on about one one free kicks that they thought they should have got against Blair mark, I even said to the guy next to me who was a hawk supporter that they had 21 players on the ground today and that they will not win the grand final without the help of the umpires like they have got in the last three grand finals in the AFL will do nothing as normal and I wouldn't be surprised if gillon was a Hawks supporter _________________ Go Pies...Premiers 2010 |

They've been getting a charmed run with the MRP too. Lots of fines but bugger all by the way of actual suspension.
Hodge got nothing for his drink driving last year. James Faulkner gets done for drink driving and gets suspended for bloody ages just to name one recent sporting star who was punished appropriately.
Clarkson assaults a person and gets zip because the person aggravated him - please, if we assaulted everyone who aggravated us the hospitals would be even busier places.
Lewis punches someone off the ball last week - nothing.
Sloane hits someone in a marking contest - 2 weeks down to one. Arguably cost the ma top 4 spot.

If Stevic doesn't get you Razor will. We can add Bannister to that list now. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

Yet when the game was on the line they missed the most blatant of free kicks to Hawthorn that netted us our 2nd last goal... |

The Umpires are pretty average these days. They stand in the wrong position and miss a lot of incidents. They missed plenty free kicks but I can't say that is the reason the Hawks won. I can say Marley Williams cost us two goals and Cloke's inaccurate kicking came home to kill us. That's footy. |

Oh wow Cloke kicked two points, not 10! And he kicked two amazing goals under pressure, that along with Blairs got us back level. As for that free, so what? Take the goal off him sure, will you take the two or three the Hawks got from soft frees, or missed frees to us (the Pendles one resulted in a hawk goal) too? If so, beauty, we win _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I very very rarely blame the umps for our problems but yesterday's performance was pretty bad. The worst thing umps can be is inconsistent and yesterday was just too bad in that area. The holding the ball and in the back interpretations were confusing and seemed to favour the Hawks.
It seems as though they come into a game thinking x player is either A) is a fair player and gets the benefit of the doubt (i.e. Hodge and his ability to knee someone in the back and get a free kick) or B) Plays for frees and therefore should NEVER get a free (seems like Trelor is in that category) _________________ I think therefore I think - I think |

Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Lewis, Gibson & Rioli are premiership stars, famous players and great blokes.
When they duck into a tackle, they must get the free.
When they hit someone high, it must be accidental, so it's play on.
They never put the ball out deliberately.
If they touch you when you have the ball, it's holding the ball.
If they impede the man on the mark while their team mate takes a kick, that's fine.
If they fall on you with their knees in your back there's no way it's on purpose, this is automatically play on.
When tackled, champs like them deserve more time to get rid of it and if they drop it, it's play on.
These are the good bloke, premiership star rules. |

Bingo!
Sadly goes back to simple school yard psychology.
The geeky kids (i.e. Umpires) want to impress the popular kids (i.e. Hawks/cats/dogs).
Umpires are star struck and unconsciously (in the case of Stevic, Schmitt and Ray- arguably consciously) allow some players/teams greater freedom than others.
Add to that the denied advantage a few times.
Always find away against Hawks- 2014(I think) and Schmitt calls a throw from 70metres away against pendles that was not a throw-when we were within 3 points and streaming down the ground.
Going to have a tricky time deciding whether to favour Hawks or cats next week! |

Hate commenting on umpires after a loss but I bloody agree with every word written in this thread.
Hodge is an utter disgrace as well. I counted 4 dirty acts yesterday. Grumpy old sniper |
