Vics 3/182. Stoinis out for 72, having stepped up the pace to try to polish of the remaining runs. 11 needed. |

Handscomb wins it for the Vics with 3 quick fours.
A heroic effort to win the Shield away from home.
Dean 54 to back up his 111 in the first innings, Stoinis a very determined 72 and Handscomb 62 not out to go with his first innings 112. |

Again, very happy for Cam White.
We (I mean Victoria ) looked gone, in the last home & away game against NSW, but he played a fantastic hand to secure a draw and passage into the final. His 6 hour 91* will be something to cherish, as he looks back on his career.
Kudos to first year opening batsman, Travis Dean. He had been picked for his first match ahead of Australia's T20 captain Aaron Finch, and his selection came after a string of hundreds in the Futures League competition. His 154* & 109* on debut was a first in Sheffield Shield history and second in overall first class matches in Australia. He followed up with 84 in his second match.
However, he then had a run of mediocre scores before coming good in the final, with 111 & 54, to finish his first season with 807 runs @ 44.83
Marcus Stoinis (659 @ 38.76) and Peter Handscomb (784 @ 43.55) also had good seasons without being spectacular. They both contributed well in the final. Stoinis hit 35 & 72 and Handscomb, 112 & 61*, to be awarded Player of the Final.
Well done Bushrangers. _________________ Donny.

I've not read anything but it would be a great time for Cam to retire from first class cricket. He may have other ideas but with the lucrative T20 format beckoning, he may follow former team mate Brad Hodge, in that direction.
Rob Quiney may follow. An average of 32.76 and no centuries marks a disappointing season for the left hander. _________________ Donny.

I agree with your sentiments, Donny.
Not that it matters greatly, but, in the second dig, Stoinis hit 72 from 129 and Handscomb was 61 not out from 68 when he hit the winning runs. Handscomb made batting look easy from the moment he arrived at the crease. Stoinis, on the other hand, toughed it out yesterday, showing great character to go to Stumps on 17 from 81 balls, before hitting a mostly care-free 55 from 48 balls today. |

The highlight of the morning came when Stoinis, who had played within himself to be 29 from 115 balls, hammered Travis Head for four consecutive sixes over the midwicket boundary, the last of which brought up his half-century.
"We came in today with hope and one over from Stoinis diminished that hope pretty quickly unfortunately," said Redbacks' skipper, Travis Head. _________________ Donny.

I must say, SA going into a 5 day SS final with NO frontline spinner beggars belief. _________________ Donny.

Perhaps they are trying to prepare to play the subcontinent the way the Australian T20 team does? |
