Haven't heard much about Oxley this preseason. What's doing with him?

Probably shitting kittens about getting a game in 2016, my guess.

Don't think he's ever going to put on much weight .

But I feel safe when he has the ball in his hands .

If he did that he would weigh less than Dean Laidley when he was pretending to be Kate Moss!

Wasn't Dean Laidley called the "Junk Yard Dog"?
I am not sure.
Anyway, a bit of Junk Yard Dog in Oxley would be great!

I actually think he will play round one. He has put on some weight to me. He is a beautiful kick, strong mark and reads the play well. His preseason has been good.
As an aside I think Ramsay is a dead set cert for round one.

The trouble for Oxley is that with a fit squad he is competing on a wing with a long list of talented mids (I have Oxley and Aish outside my round 1 22 and also probably also De Goey (incredibly harsh based on intra-club form) if Treloar is fit) and even if he went back to half back he would be competing with the likes of Langdon, Toovey, Goldsack. I'm sure he will get games as we won't ever have a fully fit squad. It is a great problem for the team to have and in 2016 I think it is important to nominate who you are going to leave out when you nominate someone for the 22 as that will highlight the depth of the list and competition for spots, eg:

My current Round 1 Best 22 (assuming Shazza, Treloar, Goldsack and Howe unavailable)

B: Ramsay Brown Frost/Toovey
HB: Langdon Reid Williams
C: Sidebottom Crisp Pendlebury
R: Witts Greenwood Adams
HF: Elliott Cloke Fasolo
F: Broomhead Moore Blair

Int: Grundy De Goey Varcoe Swan

100% agree on Ramsay based on 2015 pre-injury and intra-club. Will be tough for Sinclair to crack a game as I think Williams and Ramsay are basically locks for the same running defenders.

^^ Marsh instead of Toovey/Frost. And Aish is a certainty.

I'm glad to see people are finally including Ramsay in their 22s.

That's a pretty good side. Personally I would probably go with Oxley over Toovey. Although I concede they are more likely to be conservative round one.
As much as I love Broomhead, I think Aish is in front of him.

I know Marsh (and Maynard) have fans (and I am one who sees their potential, but doesn't think they are current best options), but on exposed form to date (including the recent intra-club) I (respectfully) disagree with your view. I would also have Goldsack ahead of Marsh. You would also be losing a lot of (Toovey/Goldsack) or some (Frost) experience which I think will be an important factor in selection with our list. Injuries and player management will inevitably open up plenty of opportunities for our "shiny new toys" like Marsh and Maynard

Who do leave out for Aish?

I see him as on the cusp, but I'd take the guys I've named above ahead of him.

Aish had a very mixed intra-club. His disposal early was not good, but improved during the game. He will have to earn his spot with some good NAB form and try to jump ahead of guys like Varcoe or rely on injuries/player management opening spots up.

Versus Swans I suspect Toovey may have a lock-down role on one of the small or mid-sized forwards. Probably not a role for Frost if Tippett rucks, but depends on Swans selection. I understand that Oxley has been pigeonholed as a winger rather than half back and Langdon has been earmarked for the role Oxley might have played off half back - just based on comments coming out of the club.

I can see Broomhead and Aish may be in competition, but I thought Broomhead had better disposal overall last Thursday - they both got a fair bit of it. I don't recall much of Aish at Brisbane, but his disposal has been criticised by others and Champion Data's comments on him suggest he is a risk rather than a certianty ... let's hope he pans out for us. Broomhead has shown bits in the past, but probably hasn't consistently put whole games together. I'm hoping the competition for spots will bring the best out in all these guys.

For me it creates a fair bit of excitement about not just the AFL, but the VFL. Thinking back in the last decade, Geelong and Hawthorn have not been scared to keep guys in VFL and really make them learn their team roles and earn their spots ... I'm expecting that is what we will do now that we should be seriously competing for top 4/8.
