Spending outside the cap is fantastic for us. Is this just for disadvantaged areas / backgrounds (ie. immigrants etc)? Must be. I reckon we'll built a mint in the NT and start handing out memberships and possibly build new cities with cheap housing - all centred around football fields for sure!
Hawks clear winners though, and annoyed we didn't get Gippsland (my area) but oh well - if I have to move to the NT so be it!

I think we need to build the new capital of Barkly - Collingwoodville - with cheap housing, 4 day working weeks and free candy for children and pensioners (and forwards with a more than 75% accuracy)...
I'm not sure how the AFL did it but it looks like they've given the Hawks and Cats the cream... again!
Only upside is it looks like the Blues couldn't buy themselves the top shelf!

It would be interesting to see what the borders of the Melbourne Central zone are. With a bit of luck it will include a few of the APS schools such as Melbourne Grammar, Scotch College, St Kevins, Caulfield Grammar, Brighton Grammar and Wesley. It may even encompass Xavier.
These are areas of concentration of talent and many of these schools recruit jocks on reduced fees so that they have access to the type of talent that will help them win premierships.
Also it may give the Oakleigh Chargers better resources to attract the type of player that would be a asset to Collingwood. We certainly have the funds and the expertise to make a difference in this area and those clubs that do this well will have a real advantage come draft time.
I would take a high concentration of well educated/ well adjusted and selected talent in central Melbourne any day over most other regions. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Has anyone bothered to do an analysis of population in the different zones?
NT area is huge but most of the NT population is around Darwin and Alice Springs. _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

I agree - kinda like we're just making up the numbers (or perhaps space without numbers) isn't it!

I would be interested to see a full and complete statement from the AFL as to how they decided upon the various areas and whether or not all clubs supported the final version. As an aside, clubs would still have to match bids for academy players by other clubs and you only have so many points to use from your draft selections. Sydney et al showed this year that you have to be prepared to "give away to get" and that you probably cannot get all you want (Dunkley). So, if some clubs have bigerr or more populous areas there is the possibility that they might have too many academy players to bid on all, leaving them available to other clubs. Makes selection interesting. _________________ No one needs to get hurt, it's only business. |

Hopefully 2 or 3 top young players a year from your academy would be brilliant. If this system was in place already, who might we have collared through the academy in the past 2 years? _________________ No one needs to get hurt, it's only business. |

Remember it's only for 'disadvantaged' kids? Or kids from non traditional back grounds? Whatever that means - basically we woudn't have got Mills or Jesse Hogan if they played for the chargers - but we would've got Majak Daw or Brandon Ah Chee...
Better hoping that you get a Rioli or similar from out 8000 residents of Barkley!
