last night at the soccer they had someone sing the national anthem. after the first verse everyone roared like you come to expect at the footy except we were all caught out by the singing of the second verse. i looked around and very few people knew the words. of course, having sung it at school every monday i knew the words but lots were in amazement it even existed. some people even chose to sit fown at this point.

also, call me old fashioned but i was taught to remive any hats or caps when singing or observing the anthem. very few, if any, did so. unlike at the footy the announcer didn't ask the crowd to remove their hats or caps. do we always need to be told? or do some people just not gaf?

Agreed, Celebrate how the **** you want. I've just knocked off 2 hours work that I didn't have time to do last week in the office so I'm about to hit the shower, go buy some smokes and do some gardening.

Anyway, I really like this, it's a remake of the old Goanna song, Solid Rock. The message in the video as I take it, is one of inclusion, not exclusion, which is really good and actually quite powerful I think. We're all one mob, don't matter where you came from.

Crank it up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbAMtQQYcZ0

We'll sing the national anthem to the bemusement of our three British / Australian children, make a pavlova, and put some gum leaves up. Happy Australia day.

After all this time, that's the first I've heard of Mugwump the father! [Maybe not - just remembered you mentioning a few things, maybe in relation to education??] Best to the family, BTW. How old are your kids?

My Beloved curses my dual citizenship and reckons I don't deserve it; my predictably annoying response is to say something like "Sucker!", followed by a juvenile Kelvin Cunnington cackle:

I protect them from mad lefties, old son ! Smile

They're 21, 19 (boys) and 16 (daughter). Oldest is studying Comp Sci, second one is studying history, and the third one is a literary hopeful. Two humanities types ! All dual national, more or less grown up in the UK, though we try to maintain their "multicultural" Aussie identity. At least two of them care enough to support the Pies, and one is likely to do a year in University in Australia. All is not lost ! cheers

I don't know you ptid but I like you.

We are THE luckiest country in the whole bleeding world and 99.99% of the people that inhabit it are so caught up in their own BS they never take the time to stop and smell the roses. All they want to do is bitch and carp about what is wrong with everything and everybody else! (It's NEVER OUR fault!!!)
My Dog, we are so far from the worst this world has to offer (and surrounded by a moot the size of several oceans) but we ignore what is really important, ie: being good to each other and making the world a better place for all of us to live in.

More power to you mate!!!

I'm with you.
I am only the only one in my family who doesn't eat pavlova. Don't like meringue either.

I usually make deserts for family gatherings but pav is the one thing I will not make.
