Here's a link to the story. http://www.9news.com.au/national/2016/02/23/19/32/the-growing-industry-of-sugar-relationships

Apparently "Jess" in the photo and video isn't from QLD nor is her name Jess.

It's actually an interesting story. The women are engaging in basically a form of prostitution although not all of them include sex as part of their offering and it's generally an exclusive arrangement.

The dynamic isn't actually that weird, it's been going on forever, just not necessarily in an organised manner like this.

ACA ran an "expose" on the sugar daddy/sugar baby stuff last night. That's where middle aged dudes with cash to burn hook up with young attractive women who want to be "kept" and in return for a weekly amount to pay rent and living expenses or gifts or other things will provide services varying from going on dinner dates at little notice and always being the nice dutiful girlfriend to doing to no holds barred horizontal lambada whenever asked.

I only know because someone at work happened to watch it and recognised one of the women who consented to be interviewed as a "Sugar babe"

Aren't those Young Women pretty much Prostutites ?

Nothing Big Wrong with it but not very Ethical and Cause a Lot of Trouble IF Caught

Are there really that many people who ardently disagree with the contention that these women are essentially entering into prostitute/client relationships? Maybe some of the women themselves would flinch at the comparison – and I want to make it clear that I'm only referring to these specific financial arrangements, not all relationships between older men and younger women – but there's hardly that much to argue about here.

Is a person who chooses to marry based purely on their partners financial capacity to provide any less of a prostitute?

I'd hesitate to call such arrangements (i.e. where there is no direct cash transfer going on) 'prostitution', but I have no doubt that many ordinary relationships effectively function as such, at least in part (i.e. sex for money).

I don't mean that in a pejorative sense (as you'd be aware, I support sex workers and support sex work being considered a legitimate industry); but I can't imagine that these 'sugar daddy' arrangements are particularly healthy or fulfilling for either party. I tend to believe the best relationships are built on equality, not mutual dependence.

Depends on your definition of healthy and equal. I don't see a problem with the sugar daddy arrangements any more that I see a problem with the more traditional prostitution.

Each party goes in with their eyes open, each party is equal in that they can choose to walk away at any time, in fact it's one of the more honest forms of relationships around.

And no, I'm not a Sugar Daddy, I can't afford it. Sad Wink

I've never seen or heard about the Paxtons until now. After all they were the centre of media attention when I was only two years old.

It was funny watching that.
