Given that Port, Melbourne, Bulldogs and St Kilda can upgrade rookies to replace the suspended players on their lists why can't we?

They are all found guilty of the same offence.

The AFL just make up the rules as they go. Evil or Very Mad

No that's not right Dave. They were on our list for all of the 2015 season and only delisted at the end of the season.

I remember Gary Pert being asked during an interview last year if he could upgrade rookies to cover their spots and he said the AFL had told them they could not.

They where De-Listed Immediately after there Suspension's where handed down and then we Decided to Rookie Them as they are good mates with lot of the Playing List

I find it frankly ridiculous that our two guys, who did by far the lesser crimes, must do twice the time of the Essendon crooks, and that these sides get to promote rookies and we don't! We should be at the AFLs throats demanding equal treatment, something the AFL seems incapable of delivering where we are concerned.
I had hoped the new CEO would make a difference, but no sign of it so far.

The AFL are trying to save the broadcasting rights money, not the Bombers. The other clubs with suspended players won't get top ups. i can't imagine the players they will get will be much good given that most VFL lists would be finalised.

The AFl wants Essendon to be able to field a team. Once they allow it for them they have to allow clubs who recruited ex Essendon players to replace them too.

This saga has been going on for so long which also contributes to the mess, but the AFL has already penalised the club for it's actions with suspensions, fines and kicking them out of the finals (to much hilarity when the team that finished 9th, Carlton, beat Richmond) so they don't want to penalise them to the point they can't field a team and the fixture and broadcast rights are compromised.

Typical AFL decisionmaking, really. They just make up the rules as they go along. In a fair world they should have allowed us to upgrade rookies last year too, but, you know what they say...
