The Club has taken about $500 out of my Bank Account.

Says it is a Ticket. So I guess it's my Membership for 2016.

I will pay for it but I don't like it taking money without asking.

Has that happened to anyone Else?

dave, it's an opt out system. this should come as no surprise unless you don't read the fine print.

You must have ticked a box , when you signed up your membership , authorising the club to debit your bank account automatically for the next years membership fees.

How would the club even know what your bank details were unless you told them.

It's actually a little trick that a lot of renewable membership sites do now.

The standard option is to automatically renew, so if you don't want to renew you actually have to untick the box or contact the club before a set date.

I've been caught out with NHL and MLB.tv subscriptions in the past, just something you have to keep an eye on.

Yeah I've been caught out as well, thing is I had no intention of renewing (was for a website), luckily I got my money refunded with a minimum of fuss.

Its pretty much standard practice now days but it's a tad unethical IMO, as you said the default option is normally to auto renew, clearly it shouldn't be.

how could they of taken out $500 already?

the part payments start back up from around 1st oct. which means they should of taken out the 1 payment. there is a gap of a couple of weeks after the grand final to the 1st payment for the following year to cancel membership etc.

just call the club up on monday

Not really HAL; somebody's got to pay for Treloar and Aish's contracts, so the club just started with DTM's bank account...

Depends on if you elected to have the full amount taken out or pay in installments.

I opted for the automatic renewal with full payment in 2013 as it was easier and I didn't have to worry about missing an email reminder to renew. Was told at the time that you could opt out of auto payment or change to a payment plan provided is was done prior to the date of the renewal rolling over (this year is was 21 October).
