How many countries in the world can you name? You have 15 minutes and a map to help you out. Good luck! Smile

I got 180, missed a handful I should have gotten, but the Caribbean and Pacific always throw me off.

^ Yeah, they're the hardest ones. 180 is pretty impressive, though! Do you have a method (like, say, doing one continent at a time) or do you just put down whatever comes into your head?

SP, I love Sporcle too. I've used it since I was a teenager - really good questions, and they seem to have a good fact-checking system in place. You could spend hours on the geography quizzes alone. Smile

Try my best to do them according to continent, but being a soccer fan helps makes it easier.

Ah, I can well imagine! My method is very much geographical - if you could look at a visual diagram of the way I do Africa, for instance, it would look like a snake going Egypt to Morocco, then Mauritania to Somalia, then down the east coast to South Africa before going back up the other side and finishing in the western region. If I do it any other way I end up missing countries all over the place (including the most obvious ones).

There's also the problem of micro-nations, which is not inherent to the Caribbean or Pacific either - Europe and Africa have their share as well, and sometimes contentiously so - Sporcle includes Kosovo and Palestine as nations for example, which can trip some people up.

119

Not on my game at all today, had a little chuckle at "Palestine", whoever made this is a shit stirrer. I mainly struggled with Central Africa, The north coast of South America and the Pacific.

I obtained a score of 115. I can't believe I didn't list the Netherlands even though I thought I did initially Embarassed

I struggled with Central and Southern Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific countries as well.

Most of the countries in that list are uncontroversial and fully independent nation states - the three disputed territories are Kosovo, Taiwan and Palestine. Kosovo is recognised by the majority of the world's nations (though many still don't) and Palestine has observer status at the UN which grants it a kind of official statehood. The most 'unofficial' one is Taiwan, but I sort of feel like it'd be more of a political statement to leave it out than to include it.
