Collingwood has our very own Steele Sidebottom, which is indisputably a great name.

A couple of draftees names catch the eye this year.

Geelong picked up Wylie Buzza. The Coyote is a Ben Brown lookalike, hopefully not as good but a great name nonetheless.

Carlton picked up a kid called Jesse Glass-McCasker. Sounds like a Scottish goon bag Razz

A new Zealand cricketer named Bob Cunis once copped anecdotally a great sledge when a radio commentator described a shot he played as being like his name, neither one thing or the other

Any other great names out there in AFL? It's off season, have a bit of fun.

Can't believe we let another team get a player with that name. Buzza should be playing alongside Sidebottom and Broomhead.

I can't believe I forgot broomhead. Embarassed

Great surname but needed his parents to be more imaginative with his first name. Razz

Honourable mention to the Roughead family where obviously genetics go hand in hand with the name. Wink

No great puns but great names from other cultures..
Fatui Attata
Danny Seong
And a young ruckman who played VFL but was promising in 81/82 but passed away... Anyone remember him... Sorry I only just dredged that up from my back part of my brain...

Hmmm,
It got me thinking of all the 'unusual' names that we've all followed over the years. Some of these are household names now, but in reality they are quite unusual.
Simon Prestigiacomo, Tarkyn Lockyer, Steele Sidebottom, Tim Broomhead, Tyson Goldsack, Sharrod Wellingham, Heritier Lumumba, Rupert Betheras, Ronnie Wearmouth, Rene Kink, Doug Gott, Jack Frost, Brad Dick, Mick Bone, Murrie Batt, Kirk Ugle, Shane Woewodin, Andrew Pugsley.
All Pies greats (well almost all)

Most teams seem to be emulating Hawthorn to some degree, even us. Now we have Brown and Gold on the list. Hmmm.....

The first Sri Lankan born player to play VFL, Enricho Misso. (Essendon and St. Kilda). Great name, ordinary player!!!

Also loived the name of former Collingwood player Paul Rizonico for some reason, nicknamed Rinso!
