Post subject: Buckley and Hine list direction. | |
|
It is interesting the type of player Collingwood have pursued of late.
We have gone for a lot of mids with the recent draft picks being quite tall mids.
We also seem to be quite happy with picking talls that take a long time to develop.
Someone said in another thread that we seem to be developing a team of ruck rovers with only a few KPP.
I have been very happy with our draft and rookie picks this year.
Can anyone else comment on what they see as our recruiting trends over the
last few years. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I am quite positive about 2016.
I haven't felt like this since 2009. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

at the same time, some of these recruits are real footballers.
Treloar isn't the most 'cut' athlete, but he knows how to play football.
In a different way, Sier is the same. No super athlete but appears to know how to get the pill and deliver it. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

And midfield will bat real deep if all these kids become reasonable senior players. |

If they (the Afl) are going to limit interchanges, or bench size in anyway in the future - tall mids is the way to go. It's smart recruiting. |

I was surprised we didn't target a key forward or a genuine crumbling forward during the draft. In hindsight with the cap on rotations I think the club has decided to select guys that could at least compete as mid sized forwards but could also push into the midfield or in the backline.
I think we will be able to run out games and the season better with multi positional players. |

We have AFL-ready guys in Cloke, Moore, White and Goldsack (and Reid potentially) and project tall forwards in Cox, Gault and Wyatt (and possibly Marsh).
We may not have the best tall forward talent, but I would have thought we have enough of them. Dekka made a point at the members' forum about us having a very tall list now.
I thought we might targeted a mature age State Leaguer to provide some immediate depth in case of injuries, but the Club seems bullish on Cox's forward ability and more bullish on Gault (who I thought showed a bit early in 2015 when given a chance) than some on this board.
The genuine crumbing forward is a definite list gap IMO - I had us pegged for Shane Yarran - but maybe Broomhead, De Goey and Swan can provide that in 2016. _________________ All We Can Be

I'm still somewhat disappointed we didn't draft The Weed, but we had to give up those picks to land the class in Treloar and Aish. We've done well.
While another tall forward would have been good to see, I think we actually have numerous options, remembering that the modern game really only requires 2 KP forwards. Our current options are:
Cloke
Moore
White
Witts/Grundy
Cox
Wyatt
Gault
And in 12 months time we'll also have Keeffe. |

The new direction is players who are like… Buckley
I always used to wish we had a few of them running around - now maybe Bux and Hine are hoping for the same.
The way the modern game is played - taller mids who can run with the pack is the way to go. I even remember the time Bux beat a taller Carey still at the top of his game.
A top player with a professional attitude was our Nathan Buckley- hopefully the new recruits deliver - they seem to be motivated for some hard work which was very Buckleyesque. _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

I would add that they pick ups in most cases are elite kicks and skillful who like to get the hard ball. |
