Just before you start the insertion, you say "Now this won't hurt a bit ...."
Later on, part-way through the first ball perhaps, you can continue: " .... it will hurt a lot!

That's one option.
The other one is to provide lube, insert them while deflated then inflate them once they're all in place while some pats them gently on the shoulder and says "There there, it's almost finished."
