Maaaaaate, that's a decent can of worms to crack open there...
The selections from 92/93 season up until 98/99 were as diabolical as they were inept and often dumbfounding.
Siddons the most talked about. Was pushing shit up-hill demanding a game over Boon/Marsh/Taylor/Jones/S.Waugh/Border.
All of whom were locks performing quite well from 85/86-92/93.
Now Glen Trimble... we already had one fat lazy Qld cricketer who lacked application to the task, in Greg Ritchie. This was the mid 80s, so I'm thinking the selectors didn't want another carbon-copy on their hands.
Steve Waugh was coming through, who got his chance when O'Donnell was out with his back injury, prior to the cancer.
Do you recall those one-day games Trimble got gifted during 85/86?
He was SHITHOUSE. Just to confirm: SHITHOUSE.
Ken McKlay [?] from WA, was around at the same time, performed much better, and still didn't get a look in past those WCC 86/87s ODIs.
Hopes very unlucky to be caught in a glut of all-rounders vying for selection.
Law and Love also shafted by limited test match chances.
Wayne Phillips should never have got that one test against India replacing Marsh in Perth, for the 91/92 dead-rubber. Disgraceful to Marsh.
The farcical inclusion of Martyn, and the omission of Jones for the 92/93 series still winds me up. John Benaud is a dog of the lowest order.
And don't start me on Hodge, who's omission from the middle order after 6 tests, set the team back about 3-4 years by my calculations.
I blame that egomaniacal hairy-armed baboon Ponting for this.
Lehmann was selected WAY too late, and was somewhat out of form when he finally landed the baggy green against England in 98/99.
Okay, who'd we miss? _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate ... SAM Trimble. His father.
144 first class matches. 26 tons, 48 fifties. No Tests.
His son maybe played 50 fc games. 3 or 4 tons, if that. _________________ Donny.
