Fraser was a slender body that MM crucified by playing him 1st ruck. He should have held him back and worked him off the field until his body developed more. Then we may have seen the best of him. By the time his body matured it was already half busted.

Grundy is a mature body in a young man. He still has maturing to do but at the same age Fraser was a stick.

Fraser was always a stick.

Shoulda just played him as a versatile secondary forward... hard done by imho.

Sad part is he was our second best ruck from 1990 to 2009, it clearly was t an position Mick rated.

When he netted zero kicks in the Port final?

Smile too true but some of us old hard cases still like to throw his name around. Unfortunately people that never saw him play live will never appreciate what a great loss he was for our club! Better still what a great player he was for that short 100 games career.

If you want to be critical of a player in 2002, it's Jarrod Molloy.

Burns, Kelly, H Shaw
Clement, Reid, Maxwell
Brown, Buckley, Millane
Daicos, Cloke, Swan
Sidebottom, Sav Rocca, Tarrant
Jolly, Pendles, T Shaw
int: McGuane, Sidebottom, Banks, Leon Davis

Lots of good players missing, including Didak, Fraser, Francis, Thomas, Russel, A Rocca

John Greening is still the best player I have seen at Pieland, closely followed by Daicos at his best.

Graeme Wright dominated on the wing and was a super player. Anyone who leaves him out did not watch Collingwood much during that era.
Brown also did his best work as a forward.
Also, Pebbles made many players around him look good and was arguably our most important player for many years. He was the cog that made the Malbthouse game plan work.

Quite easily swap Leon for Wright, and Tarrant for Pebbles.
Gavin Brown was a much better wingman than forward.

Just shows how tough a task it is. For mine I'd opt for Pert over Kelly with apologies to Presti, Cosisca over Maxwell with Morwood unlucky to be overlooked, Pebbles over Sav, Russell over T Shaw, Wright ahead of Davis, Didak ahead of Tarrant purely for team balance, and I'd still be scratching my head trying to work out how Benny Johnson didn't make the 22.

Fully agree on Greening and I'd be hard pushed to split Daicos, Buckley and Carmen with Pendles closing fast.

People either have short memories or are massively underrating Gavin Brown.

He was an absolutely outstanding wingman (I remember him tearing South Australia a new one in the 1989 State of Origin to romp in the EJ whitten Medal against some outstanding competition as a young bloke) who due to necessity, because we were so shit in the mid 90's, had to play down back on the oppositions best forward despite often giving away height and weight (he also excelled at that tearing Darren Jarman a new one as a defender to win a second EJ Whitten Medal as well).

Wright was a decent enough player but Browny was a champion and an automatic selection in any best Pies side from any era.

Wright had him well and truly covered as a wingman, Wright was the best in the caper in that position, and IMO he's probably one of the most underrated players from that era.

As for Brown, IMO he wasn't good enough in any one position to make the starting 18, my starting 18 at least.
