A respected and award winning documentary film maker chose to delve into the world of the Men's Rights movement. She decided to take as objective a view as possible and in doing so has massively pissed off the feminists who want a hit piece.

Hopefully she can raise the funds to make her movie, apparently after this article and a few social media posts from Milo $20k was raised in a few hours.

Is it really objective? I had a look at the film's Twitter feed, and it looked like it was mostly promoting MRA memes. Nothing wrong with a documentary pursuing an agenda, of course, but it's hardly surprising that most feminists won't be too keen on it.

It'd have to be pretty good for me to take an interest in it – low budget 'indie' documentaries are a dime a dozen nowadays, and if it's just going to be talking heads and sappy music then I'd rather stick with reading.

It'd be great if Louis Theroux would do something on this topic, though. Surely this is his bread and butter!

I'd be interested to see her previous stuff. I mean she's won 'awards' but I don't know that that correlates to quality. She may have just found a smart niche to exploit as the MRA community doesn't seem to have too much to hang their hats on in this medium (visual arts being overwhelmingly progressive leftist).

It seems feminists were initially keen but have balked heavily at any positivity or even attention towards the Mens movement. Reeks of aggressive insecurity but then, that's what feminism is all about really. Laughing

No I hadn't, thanks David. When I first saw VICE, my eyes involuntarily rolled and I prepared to read an evisceration by some angry Social Justice Warrior or feminist/white knight. Happy to be wrong on that one. Funnily enough I came across judgybitch.com earlier today for the first time and now you post that article. Synchronicity man. Laughing

I've already posted some of Karen Straughn's stuff, big fan of hers and she's worth a watch for anyone interested in these issues. Still amazes me that the MRM can only articulate itself through Women without being attacked from all sides, I think it says something that a woman saying something is relatively immune to the slings and arrows but a man gets abused, shouted down and silenced (the women cop a lot of abuse but seem to still get heard).

Anyway, I'm off for some hand to hand combat training. Laughing

Since Milo did his bit on her in Breitbart, her kickstarter went nuts.

Film is funded and now shooting for a stretch goal to get it qualified for the Oscars.

It all seems like a bit of a publicity stunt, really. Write an article saying "movie at risk of not being made" and watch people jump on. But was it ever really at risk, or simply just another low budget doc among thousands of others that hadn't achieved sufficient interest or funding?

I don't have any issue with crowd funding, mind you. And I don't think its backers are being duped; they want positive publicity for their movement and they're getting it. But I don't think we should be under any illusions that this documentary will be even-handed.

Wokko won't be happy about this. As it happens, I'm not either.

Palace Cinemas have decided to pull the film, and will no longer be showing it.

Frankly, I wouldn't have cared if Palace hadn't decided to screen the documentary to begin with. That's up to them, and, as I wrote above, it doesn't exactly look like a masterpiece of the art form. But to decide to screen it and then cave into a thought-police petition is really disappointing. Why isn't it enough to criticise/condemn a film? Why do people feel the need to go further and stop people from seeing it and making their own judgement?

Ironic that this is written in the Village Voice review that the petition links to:

Quote:
Instead, the author of men's troubles here is always that vague bugaboo feminism, which we're told is designed to silence its opponents. (Is it even worth pointing out that being criticized for what you say is not the same as being denied your right to say it?)

Not all feminists are pro-censorship, of course. But way to reinforce the point!

Instead of brightbarty movies, may I offer the following conservative critique of feminism:

Laura C. Schlessinger - her excellent book "Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives" Paperback – December 3, 2002 told it like it was. No friend of us lefties, she is most useful when either men or women in relationships need a kick up the butt.

Doc Love, from Askmen.com. analyses why most men don't have a clue about women, and blows delusions about "the one" out of the water.

Susan Forward: "Obsessive Love: When It Hurts Too Much to Let Go" January 2nd 2002 by Bantam (first published May 1st 1991) helped me out when I was so deep in the friend zone I was writing poetry...

Marilyn York, the hard hitting Family Law Attorney "The Reno, NV Legal Force for Men's Rights. We Exclusively Practice Family Law". Specialises in male clients provided they do the right thing and don't seek revenge...

These people emphasise self reliance, and it shows that against all evidence to the contrary, conservatives have their uses...

Cassie Jaye was on The Rubin Report last week discussing feminism, her film and the men's rights movement. Definitely worth a watch if you have a spare hour.

It's the trigger warning culture that we've seen escalate on these issues, especially from the regressive left.

A blowback to this is that over 5000 people have signed an online petition to "save the Red Pill screening".

^ Probably a good idea to have some kind of pushback, but it's a mostly futile gesture – the forces of manufactured outrage are generally only good for censorship, not liberty.
