... then I woke up, and it was true!
Up to and including the 2010 season Cloke's goal kicking accuracy was a woeful 49.5%
Since 2010 he has been going at 59.1% a marked improvement.
Not up there with Shulz (67.4%), Gunston (66%), Hawkins (64.8%), Kennedy (63%), Pavlich (62%), Roughead (60.9%), Reiwoldt (60.7%), Tippett (60.7%), or T.Walker (60.4%) but better than Buddy (58%), S.Reid (56.6%), Casboult (55.8%) and Howe (55%)
He is still less accurate than most other major key forwards, but I don't think his kicking can any longer be fairly called terrible, just inconsistent.
* These figures are for overall goals and points not only set shots and do not include kicks that go out on the full. _________________ Well done boys! |

Yeah but the second best only has to worry about Jessie White. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

And then you had to ruin it by putting in the disclaimer. |

Thanks Inky, I always love your statistical work. If footy journalists were as thorough as you are, newspapers would be worth the cover price.
I guess the thing that kills us all is the frequency with which he sprays low degree-of-difficulty shots from 20m or less. It doesn't feel as though that has improved at all, but his shots from 50m or so are often very good. My hunch would be that this is the bit that's improved. As you noted, he's still a long way from the leading converters. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

The problem is that these stats actually flatter Cloke's kicking accuracy. He kicks many from beyond the 50 metre arc. However, I dare say his accuracy from in close is far worse than the other key forwards in the comp. |

i think the problem with cloke is not his overall efficiancy. i think his problem is the same as Sav Rocca's was. he can miss goals that he just shouldnt miss. And sadly, that undoes the fact that he kicks goals he has no business kicking - 50 metres from the boundary is basically his sweet spot.
I think that makes him seem A LOT worse than he actually is because those easy misses drive us insane (and from a team perspective have become momentum killers for us)!!!!!! _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Take it too the bank now. Cloke will kick 100+ goals next year
*disclaimer it will be for the Mt Mee meat ants in the upper gallanganbah 5th division. Most teams struggle to field more than 12 players and scores generally are around 350 v 340. His 100 goals will come from 762 shots on goal and he will set a new league record for missing over 500 goals from less than 30m out. |
