Post subject: Proud of the Club | |
|
I’ve loved the Pies forever but don’t think I’ve ever been as proud of the Club as I am this year.
It’s easy to be happy when you’re top of the table and while winning is playing it’s part in my feelings, there’s so much more:
The way we’ve embraced the Do Better report
The apology to Nicky Winmar
The genuine affection that seems to permeate through the team
Giving Port their heritage jersey … did it hurt that much in the end?
A low key but effective management
How every time when someone is subbed out, the lady psychologist is right there talking to them. Making sure they’re not down or too disappointed
The game style
Fly. Fullstop.
Darcy’s Anzac Day speech.
The entire Mothers Day celebration.
How some “has beens” and “might never will be’s” are getting every last drop of skill and effort from themselves
The lack of ego
There’ll be things I’ve missed. I just hope we get the end we all want. But if we don’t I won’t be less proud. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

Without a doubt. Nothing is ever perfect, and challenges will arise, but even then it's always the learning mondset that matters most. And learning and improving is what we're seeing at the club. Rarely do you get this many quality role models in one organisation. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I think the organisation is the common thread…. Either through self selection of the people who join it or adoption of the culture by those already within.
From the outside looking in it feels a bit like 2018. We know that all turned sour post the Covid years but maybe this time it can be more sustainable. _________________ It's never as good/nor bad as it seems... |

^Agreed. Fly is obviously central, but someone was smart enough to hire him. Sometimes, history itself can set people on the right path (let's not do it like Eddie and instead make ourselves small targets and lead from behind...). _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

During the Rd 3 game vs Geelong last year I turned to my mate next to me and said “win, lose or draw, I like what I’m seeing and the club just feels different in a positive way”.
My instincts weren’t lying. _________________ - Side By Side - |

This is such a beautiful post. I completely agree. My farther got me a standing room ticket an hour before the 1981 grand final. I took a wrong turn and ended up getting a front row seat. I’m 52 and have loved this club my whole adult life. The victories are amazing but to feel a sense of pride and a sense of joy in this club is just brilliant. I would only add to your brilliant opening post Maynard fluffing that kick a few weeks back which lead to a goal, and the players laughing with him - my god that is the best approach ever. Commentators amazed - everyone e else looking in either admiration or envy. Thanks again for a great post _________________ Dispatches from a foreign land |

Well said post, spot on, and its all down to the genius of Fly, and the new Board. Fly has the players bonded tighter than friggin supa glue, and the team remind me of that ol classic movie, BAND OF BROTHERS, thats what they now play like, brothers, both on field and off field, we are the tightest knit team in the comp. The new family club, so move over Hawks, the Magpies are centre stage now. ! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Certainly a good vibe around the club, just like in 2018.
Enjoying the ride as we know how quickly things can change. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

I reckon Graham Wright has been the best recruit ever - a lot of the good culture has followed him _________________ I think therefore I think - I think |

Well said! 100% agree. It just feels good and we’re getting more respect from others too — I’m hearing “I used to hate Collingwood but I don’t mind them now” a lot. |

Finally we got someone to the club who wanted to break the unhealthy circle jerk that had permeated for at least the previous decade. I'd been feeling for years that the club became incestuous in the way that Eddie treated it like his fiefdom. I stopped sensing he even cared if we performed well on the field or not. Thankfully those days are behind us.
After he leaves, suddenly we are able to attract some of our 1990 premiership team back to the club, and Josh Fraser too. It feels like a meritocracy once again as opposed to some kind of getting jobs for mates scenario.
Graham Wright turned our club around in one off-season. And it takes talent to identify talent to bring in without feeling any threats to their ego. I love this club!!! |

I am delirious with excitement that we have Craig McRosebud as Coach instead of Buckley, that’s all that matters in my eyes! _________________ WE WERE ROBBED, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, RIGHT IN FRONT OF MEEE!

Wasn't Wright at Hawthorn during the period that is currently being investigated re. racism allegations? _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |
