A young bloke who made a couple of bad choices doesn't deserve another chance?

Krakouer did time in prison. He was great for us.

We've promised to rookie list Keeffe and Thomas who were both older than Bennell when they decided to do drugs.

The kid can seriously play. I'd be prepared to back our system to get the best out of him.

As a player he'd be perfect for us. Better than either Treloar or Aish.

I reckon he's going to the Hawks though.

same. he knows his career is pretty much over at the next false step. plus, he won't cost us much.

Haven't seen anything to suggest he learns from his mistakes...No thanks.

he won't go cheap because he will have 5-6 suitors all bidding with the Gold Coast creating a "sellers market"!

He would fit right in only if Collingwood stands for a drug culture.

Bennel over Aish on pure ability any day.
On character, not so sure.

The logic to recruiting Bennell is we can get him cheap and our good culture will turn him around overnight. The assumptions in this theory dont really stand up.

The good culture works by not recruiting dickheads.
He will not be cheap

The other is Bennell is available we need players ergo recruit Bennell

He will be cheaper than he would have been without his issues.

His value is up there with Treloar's but he won't be offered $700,000 a year over 5 years. I have an awful feeling that the Hawks will pounce and look to add an elite talent at a discount price.

he's contracted for two more years. wouldn't a club ask gcs to continue paying a portion of it hence he will be cheaper.

I'm not sure that you can compare Krakouer with Bennell. What Krakouer did was much worse than anything Bennell has done BUT by the time that Krak had done his time he clearly had turned his life around. He made statements that made it clear that he understood what he had done and that he intended to change. Then he went on to prove it at Collingwood and has continued to prove it since he left the Pies. He has been a solid citizen for years now. There is no evidence that Bennell is ready to change. He probably does deserve another chance but it will be a bigger gamble than Krak was in 2011.

No Stui. This guy is a serial offender. He is real trouble. Matty Lloyd on FC tonight said that Bennell was sacked on a trip as a 17 yo footballer (Ireland?) where Lloyd was present. That was 5 years ago. The boy doesn't learn. I don't want him and I would be horrified if we even smelt this rose. Unsurprisingly, Bucks said tonight that the Club does not see him as part of our future. Essendon however is keen! Let the Bombers take him; their culture is stuffed anyway.
