Caff played VFL last week.
Patrick Keane tweeted today he had been reinstated to the senior list from the long term injury list.

Looks like there is a prohibition on the player playing AFL or in a State league for a minimum of 8 weeks (at least in the 2013 document which is the most recent I can find).
Wonder why they have bothered to put him back on the primary list this week then? Surely he won't be named in seniors. _________________ All We Can Be |

All AFL listed players (and rookies) we have are automatically part of the VFL list.
The VFL as a competition does not have a long term injury rule so Caff was allowed to play VFL.
That's the way I see it.
Talk around is they want to give Caff one senior game before the season is out, he deserves it. |

There is. This is from the December 2014 edition (the current one, according to the AFL website):
Quote: | 26.4 Duration on Long Term Injury List
(a) An injured Player transferred to a Club’s Long Term Injury List is ineligible to play in the AFL Competition or a State Body competition for a minimum period of 8 weeks, commencing from the day on which the General Counsel gives his approval for the injured Player to transfer to the Club’s Long Term Injury List.

If Collingwood only submitted the request to put him back on the Primary List (and it was subsequently agreed to by the AFL) this week, then technically the club breached the rules by playing him last Saturday.
I'm not sure what the penalty is for such a breach, but I don't think it will send us broke...

Could be for a number of reasons. As a reward for completing his rehab successfully, to give him the mental release of just being able to play footy again, to provide backup in the unlikely event that we were to make finals and a Jack Crisp (for example) were not available, or even to provide the VFL team with an extra AFL-seasoned player as they approach their own September campaign. Even the morale boost for the rest of the playing group would have been worth it. _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Incorrect.
Greenwood was returned to the Primary List on Thursday June 4th, but returned to playing in the VFL on June 14th.
Unless the AFL was a week late in announcing Macaffer's return to the Primary List, it looks like the club has breached the rules.
Don't worry though, the royalties from your Lulie Street gig should cover the cost of the fine... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |
