everyone loves a stat. they can tell us so much or not much at all. just took a look at some of the stats to date and they suggest we are not far off the good teams. we're simply not getting reward for effort.

Inside50s: 6th (behind Haw, WCE, WB, Syd, Adel)
Marks Inside50: 6th (behind Haw, WCE, NM, Adel, Rich)
Rebound50s: 6th (behind Freo, WCE, Haw, Adel, Rich)
Goals: 7th
Behinds: 4th
Tackles: 2nd (behind Syd)
Disposal efficiency: 71.8%, 3rd worst (only a 3.75% differential between us and the top team, Haw 75.5%)
Clangers: 9th worst
Centre clearances: 14th
Clearances: 9th
Frees for: 14th
Frees against: 17th (second lowest behind WCE)

The top 5 suggest we should have comfortably made finals. Sad

On the other hand we got heavily scored against from Centre Clearance and rebound 50s. Got Nutted!

On balance the averages look okay but they got inflated rounds 1-11, deflated rounds 12+

Centre clearances(14TH)is the biggest issue in all of those stats.

So even the stats indicate we need another 1 or 2 decent midfielders, Treloar & Aish?

The cherry is obviously a KPP

if we win 2-3 of those close losses we'd be sitting where the numbers suggest we should be.

Stats are interesting JW for sure
I posted the other day in a thread we arent as bad as many think and posed the same thing if we had kicked a couple straight instead of misses we could be anywhere. Yes Lazza IF but we've lost 6 games by less than 2 goals win half of those and were in 6/7th spot. We're close just need better execution and be better under pressure.
I would rather our list than many of those teams around us or below us and in some cases above us.

Yes JW, IF. Shocked

IF never solves a problem, simply compounds it...... Cool

Given our shocking stats for clearances, it's no wonder the club is after someone like Treloar. Given we have Pendles, Swanny, Adams, Crisp, Sidey and more recently Greenwood, I expected us to perform much better in this area. Partly, it must be due to our relatively poor ruck performances, though in terms of hitouts they haven't been too bad this year. So this confirms our top recruiting target - get a top midfielder.

if only jackcass never mentioned you wearing a mankini. that's an image one cannot erase easily. Laughing

unfortunately, we are consigned to undertake retrospectives and look at hypotheticals. in spite of the results, i have been buoyant about our prospects for some time and remain so. we're not far off playing finals again, and some pundits are talking about this year as us bottoming out. if that's the case then it can only be sunshine and lollipops ahead of us.

Read an article the other day that mentioned specifically that a small difference in disposal efficiency made a big difference.
But given my dislike for Stats I think it is obvious to the naked eye that our kicking is poor and our clearance work is not flash.

Yeah I agree I thought it would turn around, but the new lads have to get used to playing together i guess! but it would be nice to see us win the clearances occasionaly
