Yes, of course. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't openly discuss posting behaviours that are deterring members of the board from posting. This shouldn't just be a place for one kind of Collingwood supporter. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I totally agree David. This is supposed to be a group of people that come together to discuss a mutual interest
Everyone is entitled to an option and as we are aware there are many shades of grey when it comes to the differing opinions on Nicks. At the same time it is important to maintain a sense of balance and good will on the board and it is important to maintain an environment that is not aggressive, threatening or abrasive to the point were the board becomes divisive and unpleasant to visit. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

I think, on the whole, that the commentary here is reasonable. It gets a bit willing at times (as it probably should) but not overly aggressive or personal.
For me, the 'player X, Buckley, Ed or the Club as a whole are rubbish' posts are the most off-putting, but if you put arbitrary rules of behaviour on one type of existing post/poster, then surely the likelihood is a reduction in the diversity of opinions and posters overall, rather than an increase.
For the most part people seem to be quite respectful here - saving their venom for the proven knuckleheads. |

Good idea with the poll and a nice touch letting them vote. _________________ Fault finding is like window washing. All the dirt seems to be on the other side.

And that is the line and the fact is that only a small number of posters cross it. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Interesting results so far - about 21 males, 3 females and 4200 undecided. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Maybe we should throw in a set of steak knives for each vote.
In all seriousness, I thought it would be 90/10 males way so I think it is roughly accurate. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Is the poll for people who are male or female or for people who identify as a particular gender? _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

Okay, I'll fess up to being a woman, at the risk of never being taken seriously again.
Truly, that's my personal misgiving about posting on forums like this, which are largely male dominated. It may be just my own paranoia, but I fear that if other posters know I'm female, then they won't consider my comments or opinions with the same weight ie "She's never played the game, what would she know?".
I've experienced this attitude at actual, you know real life, male dominated gatherings of footy enthusiasts. I want to join in the discussion, but very rarely get a look in. One on one though, I can have really stimulating discussions with men...about football and Collingwood I mean!
Having supported the Pies for nearly fifty years and loving the game itself (although not really liking that it's become an "industry"), I've watched a helluva lot of football games and believe I can analyze a game or a player's performance as well as most here.
I really enjoy Nick's - I check in every day and love reading the different opinions and enjoy the banter and humour. Sometimes, if I believe I have something worthwhile to add, I'll post.
The only thing that upsets me is when the administration, coach(es) or players are character assassinated. Objectively scrutinized - fine and necessary. Personally abused or denigrated - not on, because I feel like it's one of my own being attacked. But then again, I know there are some males here that feel the same way.
I reckon the Mods do a great job of keeping the tone of this huge forum elevated and relatively "safe' for anyone to voice their opinions without fear of personal retribution. I've tried to participate in other forums over the years, but have left, because they just end up being personal slug fests, with vicious vitriol becoming the dominant theme. |
