So do we sift thru and without favour release the player who cannot use
the ball effectively to produce a game that will win us more games.
We did well with Varcoe and Greenwood showed against Tigers he
can win hard ball and once won put it to best use--Jack Crisp showed it
too
Question is are there players simalar to add to our good ball users who may
be out of contract to approach
Secondly what do we do about players we keep who, s skills are mediocre
Give them full on skills instruction over off season[/b]

JAKE CARLISLE and STEVEN MOTLOP are the two we should be chasing if they're going to be available. If not, coerce them with an offer they can't refuse. Throw AISH in the mix if he's not too expensive. I'm still not sold on TRELOAR, especially for our first pick. If not CARLISLE then perhaps HENDERSON but only for a straight swap or a second or third round pick. Carlton want a first round pick plus a player which is pie in the sky.

Players that I think are on the edge or just outside our best 22:

MACAFFER, BLAIR, SINCLAIR, FROST, SEEDSMAN. FASOLO

Those guys could be great depth players but if they remain regular fixtures in the seniors, sadly a flag won't be forthcoming anytime soon.

Definitely! I forgot about him. Travis Varcoe had the best win-loss record in the league. Trust Collingwood to destroy that for him Razz

Getting some current AFL players (Motlop , Carlile etc) are options
But how do we bring some of our current talent up to better ball use
And is it only ball use or thought process to get best result when you
have pocession--do they panic or try to execute too quik
Many time at stoppage they choose to throw ball around as if not sure
who to see at better advantage--
Maybe more games may help young uns

The ball use by Armstrong, Seedsman, Oxley, Scharenberg and Young in the VFL on Saturday was exquisite.

That's right. We have some great ball users in the seconds but Buckley prefers grunt to polished skills.

I'm not sure how this could be remedied. There is only ever room for slight improvement when it comes to ball use and hitting targets. Luke Ball's disposal was marginally better when he came to the Pies. Leigh Brown's goal kicking was far more accurate in his second season with us. If there's improvement usually it isn't very drastic. This is something that needs to be mastered as a junior.

Carlisle is not the sort of player I'd like to see us pursue. He's a bit disruptive in the same way Heath Shaw is disruptive. Poor attitude and bad body language. Anyway, he's being strongly linked to Carlton.
Henderson is signed sealed and delivered to Geelong.
Motlop is a beauty, but I suspect he'll stay at Geelong.
Treloar and Aish will be magpies.

What we must do is package up the players who have proven to be B Graders and get what we can for them. This group includes:
Fasolo - promises and teases against bottom teams and goes missing against quality opposition.
Karnezis - we got the dud Brisbane go-home boy. No tank and no ticker. Great VFL player.
Dwyer - always a depth player. Made the most of his talent. Kept him a year too long.
Kennedy - won't get a game ahead of Broomy, Oxley, Freeman, DeGoey or even Macaffer.
Sinclair - injury prone, unreliable by foot and a poor decision maker.
Seedsman - talent to burn but inconsistent, unreliable and a poor decision maker.

I think that JESSE WHITE would dominate if he played mainly on a wing. I don't like the idea of throwing the baby out with the bathwater without trying a few things first. Buckley and the coaching staff need to have more of an open mind when it comes to throwing players in different positions. You just never know what they could bring. Could be the making of him. He's a dangerous player with attributes that not many big guys have.
