The article above explains Pendles' comments. I'm comfortable with the point he was trying to make.

First of all we will finish twelfth. So losing to drop lower and get a better draft pick is useless. We will get a similar, easy draw again being in the 8-12 group of teams.
Now for me personally:
I fork out $1200 in memberships each year. I don't ever want our Club to not give full effort to win every game no matter where and when it is played. I expect for my money that I get to see that effort and application. I drive 300kms to our games, sometimes staying overnight. I used to volunteer doing work in the digital media area at the Club. I have and do give my all where possible to this Club. I don't enjoy losing. In return I want the same. I'm invested in everything we do, therefore it means something to me. The players should too. I want them to care about the scoreboard as much as I do even when we are twelfth.

The saints draw with Geelong.
The right there is our benchmark for next week.

Pendles should know the feeling about playing not for finals, it happened last year as well. Playing to win the game itself should be reward enough. Play to win all the time, not good enough regardless of the context. Really disappointing to hear him say that. Just sounds like an excuse for another dismal performance.
Can we expect two more pathetic efforts in the next two weeks? Why the hell not? Those games are meaningless too as far as finals are concerned. Really poor. _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.

Saints have a young list and can't play finals either. So why aren't they making excuses about young teams being shot at this time of year or about having nothing to play for? |

Yeah... sounds like it was a careless/thoughtless choice of words from Pendles. To give him the benefit of the doubt, he was probably trying to make the same point as Bucks was. That it's a bit different not playing for finals, but regardless, the season needs to be played out with the right endeavour. |

He's made a rather large mistake to even mention that it felt different not playing for finals, especially with how the media will jump on it. So, a big slip up there. Hope he learns from it and plays a blinder next week! |

Exactly. Saints are closer to a flag than us. They can kick and actually give a shit. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |
