was just having a look at club membership numbers prior to round 1 and it appears we are the only club not to have essentially reached the same numbers that we had at the same time last year. last year we had 68k, this year it is only 55k. most clubs have had an increase with only bris, freo (marginally lower) and gcs yet to match last year's corresponding figures.

Oh the dreaded pet memberships....

4 clubs had them before we did, but we cop some flack for having them back in 2010.

Do we still offer them??

(I don't believe the club included them in their total membership count).

Membership numbers: to be counted must be a person who pays at least $50 I think. We have the most committed members by a mile. Last year revenue figures from membership:

-Hawthorn $8-9mil (god they rely on that Waverley Gardens pokie palace and making sure they give all the community dividend to themselves)
-Richmond $8-$9 mil
-Collingwood $16 mil

This is why we are so powerful. Hawks have all those Tassie members and Vic members only see 14 games. Richmond figures are completely bull.

So paying $70 for a baby membership for my grandson gets counted? Cool.

I just saw the figures and our Membership compared from Rd 1 in 2015 to 2016 is down 18%. Hence there is no advertising on the clubs website boasting Member numbers. Shocked

Whereas this article says Collingwood membership is only 55,000 after round 1.

Current AFL membership numbers for 2016

With Round 1 now behind us we take a look at the current membership tally for 2016 along with how clubs compare to their 2015 figures.

Adelaide, Geelong and Port Adelaide all have record membership figures already and St Kilda have surpassed their 2015 total.

Collingwood is suffering the biggest loss of numbers in the competition, 20,000 short of their 2015 total while Essendon is understandably more than 10,000 members short from last years total.

Club 2016 Members vs 2015 Members
Adelaide 60,383 vs 52,920
Brisbane Lions 20,660 vs 25,408
Carlton 45,194 vs 47,305
Collingwood 55,000 vs 75,037
Essendon 50,442 vs 60,818
Fremantle 46,283 vs 51,433
Geelong 46,764 vs 44,312
Gold Coast 10,946 vs 13,643
GWS Giants 10,247 vs 13,480
Hawthorn 69,006 vs 72,924
Melbourne 34,023 vs 35,953
North Melb 37,635 vs 41,012
Port Adelaide 57,195 vs 54,057
Richmond 70,021 vs 70,809
St Kilda 34,246 vs 32,746
Sydney 42,646 vs 48,836
West Coast 59,363 vs 60,221
Western Bulldogs 30,027 vs 35,222

^ starting to think that too. if the shortfall is true that is significant revenue the club is missing out on. anyway, still got a bit under three months to go before the count closes.

Doubt a shortfall would be that substantial.
