Same as last year. As the year has gone on the amount of handball receives has dwindled to almost nothing (the overlap kind). To me this is our barometer. As we fall away in a season the want of players to play on and be involved more than once in a chain of play greatly reduces. Our ball movement is static compared to every other team. The only thing that keeps us competitive is tackling, contested ball and that extra number at stoppages. It is a Leyton Hewitt style of game. It is very taxing and quite boring to watch to be honest. Our game plan is not suited to such a young team who can't sustain the dependence of huge tackle numbers and winning contested ball. We have fun out of puff and now teams just slingshot with ease. Plus we can't kick set shots for sh$t.

I go to every Victorian game and after today's effort I would have to admit that I have no bloody idea what our game plan is and if we have a game plan of any substance

Sadly I'm starting to wonder if the notion of us trying to grasp what our game plan is has more to do with inherent problems within it rather than our lack of ability to understand the nuances of it.

Honestly today you could be forgiven we were making it up on the run it was so haphazard and the weakness of previous years like continually bombing the ball inside the forward 50 instead of being able to hit up free targets, having to many players drawn to the ball leaving opponents free or getting caught out on the fast break once our zone is broken.

Oh and don't get me started on our inability to use handball as a positive to start a chain of overlapping run and spread.

We continually handball backwards, to players under more pressure or these dicky 2 metre handballs that swell the stat sheets but provide little to enhance our ability to open up the opposition.

Simply we tend to often have to many numbers around a contest and not enough out riders to getting the ball moving quickly on the counter attack.

Our game plan resolves around pressure, creating turnovers and contested possession as much as anything and it's a taxing game plan and for the second year running is breaking down because of tired legs and minds and/or opposition tactics to expose any improvements that had been made.

Great post Swoop!

I think you're right that the game plan (if it can be identified somewhere at the very least) is very taxing on a young playing group like ours. The fact that we started well in 2014 and this year but have completely fallen away after the bye demonstrates that we're running out of legs far too quickly and the game plan isn't sustainable for the whole year unless we build our fitness up even further in the off-season.

In terms of the actual nature of the game plan, tackling and contested possessions is definitely a big proponent to it but our inability to hit our targets is simply killing us and sides are exploiting this to their advantage, plus it appears that Buckley is unwilling to play man-on-man football as it is evident that playing a zone defence isn't helping us especially against sides who know how to use the ball well.

There's some serious concerns here as we don't have a plan B set in stone if the first game plan as you mentioned fails dismally and is countered by the opposition.

C'mon it's pretty simple guys. Bomb long to Cloke and when he's not there bomb long to Blair. Must ensure 3 defenders on either before we bomb it.

If Bucks was an NFL coach his play book would fit on 1 A4 sheet.

This weeks game plan.
1. Clog the forward line.
2. Don't take a contested mark in the forward line.
3. If you do happen to get the ball inside our 50 m arc ..kick a point!
4. Push up all defenders to create the fish net
( the fish net is the press with holes in it )
5. Turn over the ball in forward 50 and sit back and watch the sling shot.
6. If you win a contested ball in a pack ... handball backwards
7. With a mark or free kick the ball backwards.
8. Don't run and carry that is so yesterday!
9. Under no circumstances should you kick better that the Aus kickers!
10. Remember with 3 giants in the forward line hit up the hobbit!

Credit where credit is due the old flying knob has given an accurate run down of today's performance. Laughing

Our game plan has been fecal matter since the Super Coach arrived and four years on it hasn't improved. Frenetic pressure is not a game plan, it is a method to be applied within a game plan. With Collingwood, there is no Plan B once frenetic pressure is met by superior or equal force. It works against weak teams but once you hit good quality teams, it doesn't work and their superior tactical coaching and system and structures comes to the fore and we therefore lose.

And one thing is for sure - it will not get better in 2017, 2018, or 2019, or anytime, while the Super Coach continues at the helm.
