Perhaps you should ask your mate Leyonhjelm. He's such a nice fellow. |
Point of order Madame Speaker. The point of order is relevance.
I'd also add that despite an overwhelming stench of sarcasm, your post is 100% correct, Leyonhjelm is a top bloke who also happens to be against any frivolous government spending of any kind. |

Can you please rephrase that with fewer ideas, or different thoughts? |

Pyne isn't completely stupid, you know. He is well aware that the pile of dirt he could throw at the opposition is very, very small compared to the massive shit-mountain worth of rorts the Liberals have helped themselves to. It's good tactics: always walk away from any fight you are going to lose.
Notice that there is no suggestion from anyone that Burke has breeched the rules in any way. He's been extravagant, but was perfectly entitled to do as he did - and his spending is a tiny little drop in the bucket compared with, for example, that of the Asbestos Witch, never mind the Helicopter Queen.
The Europe trip seems over the top to me, but the Ularu one was perfectly OK. The rules specifically allow - and indeed encourage - MPs from all parties to take their families on a given number of working trips each year. This provision exists because MPs and senators' have terrible family lives. Their kids grow up without seeing them, their marriages break up way more often than normal, the pressures of the job are immense. Anything we can do to keep MPs sane and connected with the real world outside the Canberra bubble is to be applauded.
Pyne is in charge of Liberal tactics on the floor of the house. We can see from his recent statements (this one and others) that the Liberal back-room boys want to get the expenses scandals off the front page as fast as possible, the longer it goes on the more it hurts them. Labor's tactics will probably be to go quiet for a short while and then expose another Liberal rorter. They will (if they are smart) not worry too much about extravagant legitimate spending (where, as we have seen, they too are vulnerable) and focus on actual cheating, where the Liberals are easy targets. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
