Watching the game the last few weeks I've realised that the main thing this team lacks is a mercurial "X Factor" type of player who can turn momentum, excite the crowd and get the whole team walking a bit taller on the back of something seemingly miraculous. Didak and Leon did this for us for a decade or there abouts but apart from the odd cameo from Elliott, there's just no 'spark' anymore.

This isn't an issue when your team is cruising like the start of the year, but when things get tight and everyone needs a lift to get over the line you need a Cyril, Betts, Didak, hell even a Milne type to do something amazing and make everyone else BELIEVE that they can win. Instead of looking for another competent performer how about we bring in some magic in the next trade/draft period and drop the 'workmanlike' tag that seems to follow Collingwood around like a bad smell through the ages.

Remember the first Daicos goal in the 1990 grannie.
Now that was the X factor.
But now in the words of that song .. It is not there it is not there....

Small forwards are show ponies and are icing on the cake. We need the cake first before we worry about the icing.

Cyril, Betts, etc wouldn't get near the ball the way we deliver it.

Do you think we need a royal commission on why the forward enteries are so bad.
Quick get Tony on the phone, afterall a royal commission on pink batts can't be much more weird than our enteries.

I reckon we get Bronwyn to look at our forward line given she can give us a good helicopter view of the problem.

A seagull view would be great!
But I tell you what they would see!
Yesterday's fish and chips - there cold, limp and stale!

What we need and need bad is an athletic, skilful big backmen like a Rance, Broadbent, Scofield type!

We do need someone with x factor, that's so true. This team has become so dour and boring, there's no excitement in it at all.So many games this year we could have won,but we didn't have anyone who could take the game on with an electrifying piece of play.

Alex Rance just rolled over in his solarium after reading this!

I think he rates himself a bit higher than Broadbent and Schofield, and rightly so.

Think we've got one. Frost projecting as equally good as Rance circa 2011-12 when he had similar experience. Wasn't till last season Rance actually started to become an elite afl defender and he went into the season with 90 games, Frost hasn't yet hit 50. Add Langdon's, Marsh, Scharenberg, and Maynard and I think we've got options developing.

^ spot on!

But we do have X factor players: Pendlebury, Elliott, Sidebottom, Broomhead, Varcoe, Fasolo, and Cloke - all can do awesome things every now and then.

Exactly and they bring it fairly often when the team is playing with confidence.

Would love a Cyril Rioli but history is littered with small forwards who go missing GF day. Ballantyne, Milne, Davis among them.

Of course there's also the Jarman's and Pete Matera's who electrified their teams with huge hauls in winning Grand Finals. Milne almost stole '10 from us too, was just a lucky bounce that saved us from being put to the sword by tip rat.
