Dude, as a neutral, I've gotta say that you're helping your side of this debate about as much as Thompsoc helped his when he said he doesn't believe in recycling.
If you're really so anti-racist and pro-Goodes, why are you laughing and making jokes about this serious instance of racial abuse that he's suffering from? Trolling people is only going to make things worse for Goodes, don't you think?
Reckon Wokko is right to call you out as insincere. |
Its a waste of time writing long treatises explaining a position when dealing with posters such as these. I found that out long ago. They have all been at this game on this forum for a long time. So I poke fun at them and increase their self righteous outrage a little. I doubt doing what I do makes it any worse for Goodes. These types I'm upsetting have no respect for him anyway. It's obvious why that is but they do like to hide behind excuses, rationalizations and denial. I like to call that for what it is. And the angrier they get about that, the more their insecurity is on show. Poor lil white boys who can't change. I hope the next generation does better on race, both nationally and internationally, because if we don't it will get a lot worse before its gets better in this country.

One thing I do know, (and no, I'm not into history, so yeah call me ignorant, I really don't care) is that reconciliation should be about people coming together. And judging by this thread, somewhere, somehow, it's all gone wrong. I'm not a racist, or a bigot, I don't hate anyone for their beliefs, religions, colour, creed, or even the footy team they support. I judge everyone by the same standard. How they treat their kids and their animals.
Seriously, can the abuse just stop? Cannot debate be had without the constant digs, snide remarks and personal attacks?
The boos don't need to stop, but keep them where they belong. At the cheap shots, the kicks for goal, the playing for a free, the rest is just bullshit, it's bullying, and it's childish behaviour that should have been left in high school. Just let it go.

You know our Daicos was a great stager for a free too. That game years ago against the saints when they were winning, Daicos's stage earned us a free to effectively pinch the match from the saints, when Lethal Leigh was coach in the late 80's. I couldn't ever boo Daics.

She was from Moe, I think, the town where my Dad was born. Naivete may be a feature of kids from that area, but it wouldn't exactly be the most tolerant or cosmopolitan place either.

She underwent a couple of weeks of counseling in the aftermath of the episode, so she was definitely a victim. To be branded 'the face of racism' on the front pages of newspapers, is something she'll have to live with for the rest of her life.
I actually don't believe she used the term 'ape' as a racist slur, but more because, as others have noted, Goodes hairy face and body make him look like an ape. I also understand why Goodes perceived it as a racist slur and drew attention to it. Once it was apparent she was only 13 yrs, and did not use the term 'ape' because of the colour of his skin, then I think Goodes and the media in general, should have accepted her explanation and moved on.
The really sad thing is that while all this media driven frenzy going on, the real attack on Aboriginal people is coming from the WA and Federal Government's collusion in forcing the closure of remote Aboriginal communities. |
Couldn't agree more with your last comments. The mainstream media will NEVER address the real and serious issues confronting the indigenous and poor people of this country.
Australians, black or white, will remain in poverty and marginalised as those that HAVE will not give up without a fight to those that HAVE NOT.

However, I have NEVER said that ALL those who boo were racists. All I have said is that it is totally, logically and rationally bloody incomprehensible (and hilarious at the same time) to think that absolutely NONE/ NOT ONE of those who boo are racists. So I say that a few/minority are racists and definitely stand by it.
