Let's place odds on who can most comprehensively answer both parts of this question (it's not me, I had to look him up on Wikipedia):

2/1 Tannin
3/1 Mugwump
7/2 Pietillidie
8/1 Wokko
15/1 thebaldfacts

Not a box set I'd be looking to buy! (also had to google.)
My money's on Pietillidie...

I just read that he was the inspiration for the villain in The Fountainhead .

Wokko's odds have shortened. Wink

I had completely forgotten who he was, I must confess. I assumed he was a singer or some such - who else has boxed sets? - and took no interest in this thread until I saw the odds posted and said WTF?

Like David, I resorted to Google and still had no idea who he was until I read down a bit further and the penny dropped. No idea at all about Laski the man, but I probably have one or two of his books on the shelf and may or may not have read them. I certainly read some shorter extracts from him when I was doing my degree 30-odd years ago. Whether I thought he was full of it or thought he was compelling and insightful, I don't recall now. I'll go and browse the bookshelves and see if that pings another brain cell into belated activity. Probably not, there is a major shortage of active brain cells at the Tannin house these days.

Junior needs to make some cash, I gave her some books we got from the Macmillan warehouse dilapidation job we did last year and said "stick em on eBay" I said "search like this first to see what they are worth" and searched said boxed set. Over $5,000! 2nd hand on Amazon for just over $3,000! I've emailed the seller to see if the price is right! I was going to suggest starting at 50-60, might need to add a zero!

And to juniors credit she said "I can't keep that much if it sells!"

Hey the guys were binning books left right and centre, I saved a few boxes! Good luck to her!

(Sorry David it didn't fit in the bag!)

Ebay and Amazon aren't the best places to get a true valuation.
Try ABE books.
A note of warning, they are modern reprints (not first editions) probably published for university students who ditch or on sell them for a fraction of the new cost once their courses are over. They sit in the book shop generally do little more than sit on a shelf gathering dust.

If you want a more accurate appraisal post the titles (and by who and when they were published).
I'll do some research & find you the best place to sell them (if I can).

Unfortunately they're known for their short arms

(unless they're reaching into someone else's pockets). Razz Wink
