Post subject: Great Atmosphere Last Night!
|
I thought last night's atmosphere between us and the Hawks was superb and the best I can recall in a long time.
It's sad that a tragic death had to prompt clubs including ours to stop with the supposed match-day experience consisting of hug, kiss and smile cams and fireworks during the pre-game experience that we've all become accustomed to because barring the absence of the club songs I thought last night's natural and organic atmosphere was brilliant to see.
The music wasn't blaring during the quarter breaks, everyone was able to chat with one another during the breaks and most importantly all supporters seem to get into the game without being patronised or encouraged in a manufactured manner because the match itself was an exciting spectacle.
Also the Cheer Squad has improved this year and credit where it's due after some criticism from myself and others about how small and quiet it's become over the years. It's great seeing big flags again and the area seems to have a bigger presence these days as well so well done to all those concerned and keep up the good work.
It felt very old-school and I hope this is maintained permanently and a wake-up call to the AFL and all football clubs that these extra match day experiences are unnecessary and are in fact detrimental to the game as the game of football itself is what appeals to people's motivations to attend football matches in the first place.
I'm sure these 'match-day experiences' and 'fan engagements' will return but I hope the club realises it doesn't work and should stick to what we saw last night.
Also well done to both football clubs for the respect they showed pre-game and post-game in the recent passing of Phil Walsh. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Couldn't agree more. Well said.
No blaring music or in your face advertising, you could actually have a discussion at the breaks.
Just to hear the 'crowd' was terrific. _________________ Go Pies! |

dunno, Q 23/24 was very subdued. It lacked atmosphere and I felt like I was the only person making special comments er.. yelling out loud but tasteful insults. I understand recent events may have had an effect and respect that but once the siren sounds I zone out. _________________ Fault finding is like window washing. Agree Jezza.
Although, for a crowd of 75,000 odd, the bottom of the Ponsford is still half-empty.......
Here's another idea to fix this - maybe call it "fair game" after quarter-time or half-time. If a reserved seat hasn't been taken up, all yours for the second half instead of being up in the nosebleeds looking down on unoccupied seats you'd much prefer to be sitting in.
Just a thought. _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.
