Post subject: Corked calf Ben ReidReply with quote

Each time I have ventured to the reserves this year I have had a lump in my throat about the durability of M Scharenberg and B Reid. As I get the pram out of the car and wheel my 3 year old son into Lulie Street I take time to manoeuvre the pram from all cracks on the road and lines on the footpath thus avoiding bad luck!

I park my butt in the old Sherrin stand and grimace as I see Reid bend over like an 84 year old to pick up the ball in the early stages of the first quarter, thus protecting all leg muscles. He too grimaces as the ball never materialises in his hands and is run away by his Hawks opponent. Then in the second quarter he starts stretching his leg after an innocuous incident and then never appears after 3/4 time.

The commentator behind me whose resplendent in his Box Hill Hawks regalia, making "press red for Ed" seem like impartial city, says Reid is favouring a leg. I privately say "NO, THIS CANNOT BE". Post match Messrs Tapping and MaCrae espouse the cliché of "precautionary measure" was the reason old Ben didn't appear after 3/4 time but mild assessments Monday shall occur.

Then Bucks tonight on 360 says "corked calf" which "for Reidy is good news and for others not so good news". Wow. Think poor old Ben may be allergic to footy. Can see this cork being another 2,3,4 weeks out.

Cursed!

According to Bucks on 360:
-Suffered a kick to the calf resulting in a heavy cork.
- Had scans today that had relatively good results if you were the average player, bur being Reid they are ultra cautious
- Was taken off at 3QT because of 6 day break till Hawks game and as a precaution

Perhaps we should cork his calves like they do baseball bats.

Problem solved.

I'll start by saying its clear its not serious and fortunately not his hammy but.... have you ever heard of a guy who continually gets a "nick" or a "kick' in the calf's every second week?

One day I'll be at a Pies game and Ben Reid will just explode in front of us!

You're not suggesting we do something illegal now are you?

Knowing Ben's luck though, they'll split right down the middle & the cork fragments will blind someone.

You know Ben Reid is the son of Bruce Reid?? But I believe it's not the Bruce Reid who played for Blues and Dogs but rather an ex 1985-92 Fast bowler from Perth called Bruce Reid! Mix up at the hospital!!!!

Far out... Oscar Pistorius misses less time with no calves and a manslaughter conviction

Not going to take any chances with him. Put him in cotton wool for the season then on a modified running program until the Christmas break. Should be cherry ripe for his precautionary 7 VFL games by April 2016.

If he ever runs out in the seniors and gets through a game I will get excited about Reid. Until then the club needs to go after a big man. Charlie Dixon is ripe for the picking.

Agreed Dixon would be better at this stage than what a Daniel Bandy would offer us at the same juncture.

Not on training track. Put a line through him for Friday night. Probably won't take him to Adelaide either....
