You see Rioli kick 5 goals and it's easy to say it was Tooves fault.

2 of his goals were from frees and his first was after that arsey kick by Lewis in mid air when both Tooves and Rioli were running deep and Rioli just read it a bit better and turned around to mark.

There was a couple of times when Rioli appeared to get loose (didn't always get the ball) which I didn't like. The unforgivable one was when Bruest had marked on the boundary line and Marley was caught deep between 2 Hawks Rioli started to drop back and away to the other side and Marley should have covered him while someone else come over to cover marley's man. By the time Markey realised he was 30m on his own and Bruest had spotted him and another easy shot from relatively in front of goal.

Why are so many people on here happy with that loss tonight. There is much that we need to do to improve. Applying pressure, making tackles and showing endeavour counts for nothing if you constantly turn the ball over when it counts and can't hit the score board.

Players like Elliott failed us tonight. That's two weeks in a row now he's let the team down with a bad performance. He's the sort of player that needed to step up and take charge but may as well have been watching from the stands he was that ineffective.

Fasolo tried hard but failed in front of goal when it mattered.

White is White. Less said the better.

Cloke was back to his inaccurate worst. That guy works like a horse but lets himself down time and time again we he misses.

Pendles is a champ. Swan played well. Marley, Crisp and these guys will get better the more they play.

Varcoe played hard and was gallant all night.

toovey should be slammed for his game tonight. He was on rioli and let him off the leash.

It's so bloody hard to take a loss like this especially against the piss and shit. everything goes their way when it needs to. F-me.

How do they constantly get away with holding up play when an opponent marks the ball. Even the commentators mentioned it.

A lot of us are happy ( yet still disappointed) because of a little thing called perspective.

People need to get a grip of where this side is at development wise, age profile wise, games played etc etc.....it shouldn't need explaining.

BTW, Elliot is our most dangerous smaller forward. No doubt opposition teams are on to that and working very hard to shut him down. His job now is to find a way to break through that. But he has hardly "failed" us.

Disagree with this. I saw that unfold and Marley was fully aware of what Rioli was doing. He had to try and cover both but couldn't leave the man in the goal until the kicker was committed else the kick would just have gone there. Once the kicker committed Marley tried to get to Rioli but was never gonna make it.

Just smart play by Rioli to take advantage of a 2 on 1. Nothing else Marley could do.

nine points ain't nine inches! No way we bent over!

Poor kickings, and yes, shit decisions, but so many positives, so much intent. The skills wobbled a bit, but yeah, it's all coming together.

Excuses, excuses!

We lost 'cause we can't beat them, they're too good & too skillful, Cyril owned us & every time we play them it's always someone that fks us over, always!

Fair enough, we can agree to disagree. Marley started to bolt when we realised the kick was going to go to him. Rioli was the more dangerous as he was running to the fat side space. At worse if he goes to the other guy it's a tougher shot in the pocket. All he has to do is call for someone to cover him as he was the closest to Rioli and had to go. I reckon if it was Frost he would have gone whether we cover the other guy on the skinny side well who knows but you always need to cover the more dangerous option.

A lot to like about last night. We should have won but as is obvious we lacked poise in front of goal & efficiency going forward.

To quote Bucks "we are doing a lot of things right".

It was a pleasure to be at the ground last night. The coming together both before & after the game was a wonderful gesture.

We are surprisingly not too far away.

Of course it's frustrating losing & frustrating watching easy shots being missed.

But we can all agree "we" are certainly moving in the right direction (except for the usual negativists here) & doing better that I thought we were capable of at the beginning of the year.

What made some of the experience such a good one last night (except of course for the result) was the lack of advertising, lack of intrusiveness of the loudspeakers, lack of blaring commercials down one's ears, lack of rampant loud commercialism. It was truly wonderful in that aspect of being at the game. No gambling pervading every part of attending the game. I could actually hear the person next to me when we were talking about the game. Wow. How unique.

Thought Swanny showed Hodge up when he went forward. That was probably one of the more enjoyable elements of the game for me.

Disappointing again, to lose to a contender that we had on the ropes. I don't usually like the term "the better team lost" but I'm fairly certain that's what happened last night, maybe it helps me sleep better.

Frustrated and excited, a weird combination but it sure as hell beats being pissed off.

Can't fault team's preparation or efforts, the composure will come when these boys know that they're as good or better than their opposition. I'm not sure they're totally convinced just yet

I no longer dread playing the Hawks, or any other team.

We've come a long way and we aren't even close to peaking.

Mixed emotions again for the second week running. Obviously very disappointing to lose against a top team when you have probably been the better side on the night, but regardless of the result, we have shown we belong at the pointy end of the ladder. We have regained the respect we had lost.

We are so much more advanced than I though we would be at the start of the season - really pleased at where we are in our development.

I really cant believe people are looking for scapegoats after the loss. White & Cloke actually played quite well. Unfortunately, they both missed some gettable goals. Its not as if its completely unexpected. And the criticism of Fasolo is just ridiculous. He's probably playing the best footy of his career, and he had a very rare off night as far as kicking goes.

I may have missed it, but I don't see anyone blaming the loss on the Grand Canyon like gulf between small forwards Cyril Rioli and Jamie "flat track bully" Elliott. That's the second week in a row he's taken a powder when the heat has been on against a top side. If he keeps this up, he'll be known as the Greame Hick of the AFL.

Anyway, if we can continue to bring that level of intensity into games, we are still a big chance of finishing top 4. We will beat Port next week, and West Coast the week after. Only the very top teams can withstand the level of intensity we has exhibited in the past 2 games.

GO PIES!!

Seriously, if you watched the game, and that's what you came away with, then you have absolutely no idea about football, or team sport, or sport of any kind! It's called development!

Whilst we're developing, Hawks just keep finding ways to win flags.

That's all the footy I need to know thanks.
