Intense hatred? A delusional state? It's horrible but it does happen - just as parents kill children, even though we find that largely unfathomable, too.
For example, one of the great drummers of the 1970s, Jim Gordon, killed his mother with a hammer and a butcher knife and was sentenced to 16 years to life in 1984. He claimed that a voice he was hearing told him to kill her. It appears that he was an undiagnosed schizophrenic at the time. As far as I am aware, he is still in a psychiatric prison. |

No, not off hand, HAL. Most of the great drummers of the 1970s didn't kill their parents (or, if they did, they didn't get caught).
However, in late 2013, it was reported that "Each week, an average of five people are killed by their biological children in the US, according to the University of South Florida's Kathleen M. Heide, who began studying juvenile killers in the early 1980s".
