Concealed carry permits may now have to be accepted by all states if issued in a State that allows it.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/06/27/same-sex-ruling-sets-up-national-reciprocity-for-concealed-carry/

This is what happens when unelected but appointed for life activist judges decide to overreach their power. As one of the dissenting judges stated, the decision may have been morally right but it had nothing to do with the Constitution (much like our High Court, that's what SCOTUS is supposed to rule on).

I think you'll find that few non-Americans know or care about the specifics of this judicial decision; all that matters is that gay people in the entirety of the US can now marry. Complex US constitutional issues are really a matter for American citizens (and foreigners with special interest in American constitutional issues) to argue over.

I have no idea whether that analysis is correct when it comes to concealed carry laws, but the country's pretty much screwed when it comes to guns already, so I'm not sure it would make it much worse. Sometimes things need to get really bad before people wake up and take notice.

It actually doesn't allow anyone in the States to marry, it says that all States must recognize marriages no matter what state it was done in. So if two homosexuals marry in New York, then Texas has to recognize them as married even if Texas doesn't 'do' Gay marriage itself.

^ Um, are you sure? I'm pretty sure that states are also obliged to perform same-sex marriages now too.

So the state must issue a licence, what happens if a church refuses to conduct the service?

You'll get all of us NFL fans upset, PTID, if you can't be more accurate. I'll wait on OEP's confirmation before I say anything definitive on the subject but I'm reasonably sure that's the 49ers' new-look Offensive Line demonstrating their new tactic for protecting CK at the line of scrimmage. New coach, new game plan.

Wokko, most reputable news outlets I've read (ABC, The Guardian, BBC, New York Times) have repeated the same claim, and your rebuttal is to link to some guy's blog post? Razz

But as it happens, I think you may have misunderstood him. Nothing he says there suggests that marriages can only be recognised in certain states and not performed. The point is that the states no longer have the ability to refuse to recognise same-sex marriages, whether conducted in the state in question or elsewhere. That, as far as I understand it, equates to blanket legalisation.

Anyway, let us defer to the wisdom of the Internet-God:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obergefell_v._Hodges

Quote:
The Fourteenth Amendment requires a State to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-State.

I think that's pretty unambiguous.

I expect they would still have the right to refuse, just as a religious minister is generally not obliged to perform a service if it is against their beliefs. Thankfully, we have civil celebrants and many picturesque non-sky-fairy-endorsed locations for weddings, so it's really only an issue for Christian/Jewish/Islamic same-sex couples (and that's a squarely religious matter, not a state one).
