Looks like an odd judgement but, as the saying goes, "you had to be there"... it's so hard to make sense of any court judgement without hearing all the evidence, and how it is presented, and then following the legal reasoning in the judgement itself.

Despite the article's title, it's actually about the definition of 1 per cent. Since it rests on the maths of significant figures, that matters.

Ironically, I think "you had to be there" was the actual ruling!
