What's the difference between root beer and ginger ale, if any? My guess is that root beer is just another ugly Americanism meaning ginger ale, but that's only a guess. (And I love ginger ale. My mother used to make it. Great taste and a lot of excitement now and then when the bottles exploded.)

nah, root Beer is a whole different thing. whatever it is, it's not ginger.

I bought some from Costco. According to my taste buds there's a similarity to Sarsparilla. My son says my taste buds are £$%$ed because it's nothing like Sars, he thinks it's similar but different to Dr Pepper which I can't stand.

keep in mind that the yanks created their own tastes from what was around. They had/have grape flavoured soft drink, jam and jelly and they use corn way more than us.

isn't root beer an aniseed based drink? i remember first having it in the 80s when we still alowed the u.s. warships into our waters. as a kid, i was fortunate enough to visit many of the ships and subs that docked. they always gave us root beer to drink.

aniseed? Your taste buds are more £$%$ed up than mine. Congrats.

Although apparently I wasn't far off the mark, it IS a sarsparilla based drink.

Never cared for it all that much myself. I guess I've had between half a dozen and a dozen drinks of it, total. Call it one or two a decade. About the same for creamy soda.

As for coke, I used to love it. Haven't drunk it for many years now, not even as a mixer. Just out of curiosity I tried one a few months ago. Nope: too sweet, didn't do a lot for me. And I know it's very bad for you. Back to tea. Smile

Yum, blue heaven with malt! Don't mix the malt in!

Sarspirella is gross, so is creamy soda, but I love creaming soda! Burnt the absolute worst is doctor pepper! Ugh, I remember drinking some on our honeymoon and it was an hour and a half to the next town, God I was dying, that bloody awful taste!

What's the difference between creamy soda and creaming soda? Shocked

Personally, I can enjoy the odd root beer or sars, but nothing beats a good ginger beer.

Getting a Blue Heaven spider at the Pancake Parlour has been a personal ritual since I was about five. Weird that you can't seem to get it anywhere else.

My girlfriend likes Dr Pepper (particularly cherry flavoured). I've never understood why.
