I've heard ads for this on the radio and decided to check out their web site.

http://www.homedoctor.com.au/

What a great idea. Open from 4pm to 8am, they'll send a GP out to your home and bulk bill the consultation.

Provides a nice wedge solution when the local GP is closed as it's late arvo early evening and the matter isn't serious enough to call an ambulance or go and clog up an emergency department but is serious enough that waiting until you can get to a GP isn't an option.

Great idea for parents with young kids or the elderly.

I agree Stui. Haven't used it, but sounds like it'd be a godsend if the baby was sick in the middle of the night.

Oh David you have no idea! Screaming babies with ear infections or croup at 2am, in the dead of winter, and drunken shitheads who have been in punch ups get to see the doc in front of you!

This is brilliant just hopefully it doesn't get abused too much.

Used a similar service last year on the Gold Coast while caring for my brother who had brain tumours and had issues on weekends.
First time, the doctor never showed up.
Second time had to call an ambulance anyway.
At the time I remember reading that the government was a little unhappy with the arrangement from a Medicare bulk billing perspective.

It can be a good service, but not the same as seeing your own GP that knows you well.

Mate, when I dialed 13-sick I expected three hot chicks in a lime green HQ Monaro to turn up. F&^%k those dodgy dial-up services!

You could've at least removed the lawn bowls hat from the back window! Now, on your way grandpops before people start talking.

Hang on, what's with that shower hose around your neck? You're talking to a plumber, mate; I know what that is, you f%$#n sly bush kangaroo.

You're one of those blokes from the Department of Effnic Cleansing, aren't ya'?

Yeah, well tell the government to cleanse this, you shkippy malakas!

Certainly a good service for those who probably cannot get to a doctor, and for those times where the actual doctors office is closed. I remember when the doctor did house calls when I was a kid, I had a nasty dog bite when the doctors office had closed and they came out.

Dad once had a serious medical issue, we assumed it was food poisoning called the doctor to get something for that and they put him in hospital. So if not abused it can be a very good service this one like the old doctor doing home visits.

I think you're right Proto, I think it's a great way to get non urgent cases out of emergency departments. Lets face it, if you're going to have to wait 2 hours to see a doctor where would you rather be waiting? Your own home or in an ED?
