It might be worthwhile to go back to that thread and read it again. My main argument was that we shouldn't conflate our judgement of artists/journalists/politicians/CEOs/etc. with the extra-curricular actions of individuals (a point I just reiterated above), and my secondary argument was that there is reasonable doubt over Allen's guilt. But it's a hard argument to make when the alleged victim comes straight out and says that he did it. Basically I think we have to accept that there's a very narrow grey line to navigate in these cases between presumption of the defendant's innocence and presumption that the plaintiff isn't a liar (the alternative of which would be a no less prejudicial view).

Oh I get what your saying, but since he wasn't convicted, and his former wife is not upset (and yes a few million could be the reason) and I find her clarification believable, there is reasonable doubt that it was rape. But since there was no conviction I just don't see why it needs to be brought up. I guess it depends on what regard the person is held in, and by whom! But any way, no worries.

I honestly can't believe how far this has got, it's seems bizarre! Surely he couldn't really get to the White House!

I did some research on these allegations before making comment. The allegations were made by Ivana in 1992 during a divorce trial, there was an ironclad prenup and the case was turning nasty. By 1993 she has clarified her statement as stated already. She now completely disavows it and endorses her ex husbands presidential bid. There is no proof one way or another and the victim has categorically retracted those statements. None of that means something untoward didn't happen but I'm inclined not to dismiss someone who is recanting an allegation. There's no reason to believe the first statement and not the second one beyond speculation and gossip.

Fair enough, Wokko. Either way, it is just gossip and I concede it doesn't really belong in this thread.

OK, so now we've wasted several pages discussing a non issue that David thankfully didn't split off into a new thread, how's shit going in the election?

Billary still battling away? Big Donnie picked a VP yet?

I actually saw a post on twitter the other day, if Hillary gets elected as President, Bill will make the ugliest First Lady ever.

Personally, I reckon that's debatable. Hillary herself for example set a fairly low bar. Wink Razz

Clinton/Trump tied in 3 swing states.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/05/trump-clinton-florida-ohio-pennsylvania-222994

Like our election there are mostly 'Safe' States that are pretty much always Red or Blue, the candidates need to win the swing states like Bush taking Florida against Gore to win the election.

Still a steal of the highest order. Al Gore was robbed. It would be like us going to the tribunal and the judges were Stevic, Slobbo and Carowhine.

Interestingly, nobody seems to care about the physical attractiveness or otherwise of male presidents (or presidential candidates).

Subsequent exhaustive studies by media gave the result to Bush on most metrics, including the one that Al Gore wanted the court to allow. There were some counts that would go to Gore, like a statewide recount including Ballots with more than 1 vote on them (many of these had 2 Gore Votes, a selected one and a write in). Gore never asked for a statewide recount, and even then the result would've been no more than a couple hundred, maybe a couple of dozen votes different. Overvotes like that are generally rejected, they certainly would be in our system. Bush won Florida.

Showed that election systems need to be simple, accurate and easy to understand. A lot of changes have happened because of Florida 2000.

Do you reckon he has a chance, though? No matter how many states he wins, Clinton seems to get all of the ones with big delegate counts. And her superdelegate lead isn't going anywhere.

He's no chance without shifting superdelegates, but he's the best option to beat Trump. Trump has already erased Hillary's lead in some important states and the two have shown their vote moves in opposite directions given time to speak to the electorate.

She only needs 17% of remaining delegates, but the longer it goes on the more Trump looks like a winner and she looks like she has to grind it out again an aging socialist. People love a winner.

I doubt Sanders will win the nomination in the end!

He's pushed Hillary which has been admirable on his behalf but he isn't winning this without a total collapse from Hillary.

Kasich was the only one of the last three Republican candidates tobeat Clinton in most head to head polls, but it didn't help him much in the end. I guess wrapping up the party base really is half the battle.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how disappointed are you going to be if Trump loses? Razz

What he's doing if nothing else is softening her up for Trump.
