What do you make of this comment? Typical HShaw

GREATER Western Sydney defender Heath Shaw has declared the Giants' young midfield better than Collingwood's on-ball division in their premiership season of 2010.

It’s a huge vote of confidence for his teammates from the experienced Shaw, who plays his 200th match against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

The Magpies' 2010 premiership side featured stars like Scott Pendlebury, Dane Swan and Dale Thomas, but Shaw believes the talent running around at GWS has them covered.

"Obviously the midfield that I had at Collingwood was very similar to here, this one is probably a little bit better, so hopefully we can get to that stage, but we're a long way off that,” Shaw said on Thursday.

Shaw pointed to the sheer speed of the Giants as the main point of difference between the two midfield brigades, even if it was with his usual tongue in cheek.

"'Swanny' wasn't that quick. 'Pendles' wasn't that quick, there was a lot of old, slow guys running though the Collingwood midfield, so we had to adjust our game around that,” Shaw said.

"These guys are very explosive, when they get the ball they want to go. It's exciting to watch and that’s the sort of footy we want to bring."

Got to love shaw. Excited by his emerging team and so he should be but me thinks he jests as well.

I would imagine GWS would trade one of those explosive emerging midfielders for the old slow Pendles in a heart beat.

He can say whatever he likes. They're emerging into a bloody good team and you can't deny that. If they can maintain their form and have a good run with injuries then there's no reason why they can't play finals.

They will go close to winning 2-3 flags in the next 10 years. They will be bloody awesome.

IMO he is probably right.

GWS don't have players with the calibre that we had just yet, but their team runs deep with gun promising midfielders that are getting to that superstar level. You know when Ryan Griffin is running on a forward flank, that your midfield is pretty good.

Our dynasty could be in trouble if they get going and start winning flags.

This was always going to be a huge problem for Collingwood and a few other clubs who hoped to be right up there in 2-3 years. Such is the AFL.

If they start winning flags it will only be because of the over generous concessions the A.F.L gifted them with, just as they gifted the Brisbane Lions with three flags with all their concessions. It does make you feel for some of the Melbourne clubs who have had to wait 50 or 60 years for a flag without any help from the A.F.L at all.

Wouldn't have thought that was a smart thing to say, given we play them shortly. You just don't give good players any ammunition.

Still does not meant Collingwood could win a Flag or 2 though in the next 10 year

Trying hard as I can to feel sorry for other Melbourne AFL teams but the sympathy is just not there. Must be due to them all hating Collingwood and Collingwood supporters... Shocked
Not much sympathy usually for Collingwood from other Melbourne teams.
Nah bugger them, I hope Collingwood works out a brilliant plan to beat the bastards.

Smart and Heath Shaw don't get mentioned together all that often and for good reason.

Ya tink Heath? What a massive achievement considering you have 30 odd top 10 picks on your list, flog!!

And if you do win a flag, look forward to the after party, there will be dozens of people there to help you celebrate.
