Been Great to see our Set Shots have Improved. Think Yesterday we Kicked something like 13.4 Shocked

That I best I seen for some time. Interesting we did this with White or Cloke taking many Set Shots.

Makes our Chances of Winning go up a hell of a lot. Shocked

Helps when Cloke only has one set shot (admittedly, a snap that looked a goal too). It's a lot more fun when your team can kick straight for goal. About time we knew what that felt like.

Who took the set shots? Without counting, I'd suggest that more than half of therm came from Elliott, Fasolo, and Pendlebury. The first two are excellent kicks for goal and Pendlebury, while not in their class, is better than average.

Plus, we were lucky on the day. Another time, the exact same game with just the set shots revisited (by some time travel magic) might have left us five or six goals the poorer. So, yes, a clear improvement, but some of it is down to luck.

Another factor to count into consideration is the position from which the shots were taken. Again without counting, it seems to me that a lot of the shots were from good scoring positions, more than normally so. This suggests to me that the new forward structure is working: we are getting the pill into someone's hands 30 out and in the corridor instead of 45 out and on the bloody boundary all the time.

Now that Clokey is no longer our main target, we are a much better team. Even White is playing better. All of a sudden we are kicking big scores from multiple avenues to goal. I'm still hoping that Reid might one day play down there too.

Yes there are a list of reasons why our kicking for goal has improved. But I would argue now we have Fasolo, Elliott, White and Pendles doing the bulk of the shots that is the main reason.

For years we haven't had enough talented finishers up front. We also have Broomy and Karnezis to add to those guys eventually too who know where the goals are. If you look at the ladder our scoring has improved a lot. I realise we have played weak teams mainly, but from the first pre season game we have looked better with Cloke roaming and putting the ball inside fifty and leaving to the guys who can finish. Now if we can get Reid back and firing we will be very dangerous as he can finish too.

Jesse White's goal at the end of the second quarter against North Melbourne was a great team lifter.

It was a difficult shot, but to see Jesse nail that goal when we had been playing so badly, was a good message to the rest of the team that we had the skills to turn it around.

You have to make the most of your opportunities to win most games. The Hawks had a lot of easy misses against the swans and it cost them the win.

Faz and Elliot are good kickers and when the goals start flowing it becomes contagiouseven WHite has lifted in confidence and is contributing more it often goes the other way for our guys - but by spreading the load and taking shots in front of goals more often we are looking much better. Giving the pies the best chance of winning games and finishing off the hard work done down field.

Seems to be so.

I noted in an another thread that Blair seems to be concentrating more & prepare more deliberately for his set shots this year.

Could it also the be the influence of the mechanic they employed or whatever his title is that was mentioned alongside Cloke earlier this year?
