Post subject: Great news for the Greens
|
At long last, the dedicated, very competent, enormously hardworking leader of the Australian Greens has decided to retire from politics and step down as leader, effective immediately.
This is great news for the Greens, and great news for Australia - not because Milne has done too much wrong, simply because she doesn't have what it takes to present her policies in an attractive way. She has been a good leader, but isn't much of a communicator. Thanks for your incredibly hard work, Christine, and thanks for moving on now and giving the party you did so much for a chance to move on and grow and attract new supporters.
All three of the mooted replacement leaders are excellent representatives: and any of Adam Bandt, Richard di Natale, or Scott Ludlam would be a great choice. I'm very pleased indeed that the Greens have chosen the one of those three I'd have selected myself: the outstanding Richard di Natale.
Great news! Expect a significantly increased Greens vote at the next election thanks to Richard's warmth, clear-thinking, and great communication skills.

I agree, Tannin.
For me, this is a welcome step away from their single-issue environmentalist roots. I liked Milne, but she was never a compelling leader. Di Natale is not only an excellent politician, but he embodies their modern identity as a mainstream socially progressive party. I wish him (and them) all the best. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Pretty sure the Bookies wouldn't have seen that one coming if they had a market on which political party will be the first to change its federal leader in 2015.
As far as their new leadership goes, I'll wait with an open mind to see how it works. From experience Doctors are often not great communicators. I have zero knowledge of this bloke de napoli so I'll rely on what he does from now on to inform my opinion. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

He's not nearly as eloquent as Bandt or Ludlam, but he is a very straight, decent bloke. He'll do fine. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

In the world of politics, what is wrong with putting these two points together? _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Adam Bandt would be a Terrible Leader <snip - please steer clear of potentially defamatory comments. We don't want to get sued! BBMods> _________________ I am Da Man |

I love a conspiracy as much as the next right wing nutter, but I've never heard this one. What's your source on these allegations Dave? Bandt has actually had a crack at the Reserve Bank over bribery (takes a very brave man to take on a Central Bank in any country) so would be very surprised if he was a pig with his snout in the trough.
Also considered the Greens "Too Bourgeois" when in University, so coming from Marxist/Trotskyist leanings (which seem quite sincere), getting himself into a bribery scandal just doesn't fit the mould (not that socialists are immune from accepting bribes, but Bandt at least appears to be genuine. |

Well him and Turnball have been good Friends with MPAA and Other Large Entertainment Companies. Heard they been given "So-Called" Donations from them.
Then they put this Stupid 3-Strike Rule, They just did without talking to the Public about it. They just got it done.

It's probably great news for the Greens but I think saying it's great news for Australia is subjective at best. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

I've worked with Richard he is a very good and decent man - correct weight Tannin!
You will be surprised Stui he ain't your typical medico - no arrogance, no I know everything attitude - genuinely interested in the opinions of others and willing to embrace good ideas that have sound rationale underpinning them.

Cheers Morrigu, they do exist, I have met some.
Good luck to the guy. If he's a good decent bloke and now leader of a political party, that sounds like a recipe for anguish. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
