Yeah, heard that on the news, died from cancer at 76.
I won't mention her time as premier other than to say she was handed a sh1t sandwich and made the best that she could of it and by all accounts a genuine and caring person. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^ Sad to hear that. She was indeed an honest, genuine individual, with a strong sense of self-deprecating humour and decency. Handed the role at the worst possible time as the business cycle turned sharply against the government, she paved a path for women in politics when it was arguably more sexist than it is today. Sorry to lose you, Joan. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

She deserves a lot of credit for making Melbourne the great city it is today. The resurrection of the CBD, liquor licensing laws, promotion of the arts and culture were all initiated on her watch, and are often wrongfully attributed to Jeff. Vale Joan _________________ McRae for Governor-General! |

yes, my memory might be deceitful, but I think it was her government that pushed ahead the development of both Southbank and Docklands, and gave melbourne the super-city character that it has today. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
