Post subject: Varcoe a good replacement for H | |
|
A little against the mainstream flow… I have been a very keen supporter of Varcoe. Others on this site and elsewhere seemingly less so, with some justification.
H is 2 years older - 30 next year and after watching him today play in the Dees win over the doggies it is pretty clear to me that Varcoe offers so much more to our club.
His foot skills are very good - he is polished, but he also seems to have added a bit more mongrel to his game as one of our senior guys.
I think we will get could value for Varcoe who at 27 this year is in his prime and a versatile player. I can see him doing a good job swining down back and then pushing forward for some penetrating kicks and goals.
Good work Collingwood another well thought out trade! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

We got what we could out of it, the other side of the trade was Mitch Clark, who is way more trouble then he is worth.
Harry (yep that's his name) for Varcoe was a fair trade I reckon, both about the same points of their careers too. |

Since the Trade I always thought he was an Upgrade on Lumumba.
Varcoe is a Better User of the Ball and Smarter Footballer.
I reckon you can make a Case Varcoe is the best Performed out of the 3 from the 3 Way Trade _________________ I am Da Man |

Don't agree that they are at the same points of their career I think H is a little more advanced - and possibly on a downward path… whereas Varoce needed the new challenge to lift - which he is doing and will continue to do. I know a few sandwich eaters who have been very happy with H however this time next year it will be very clear who has done the best out of the deal - and it will be the Pies!!! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

Varcoe is the better footballer. Heritier is an ambassador for the game and had at times been a good ambassador for the club. He can be erratic and high maintenance off the field, but given his life history this is understandable. I think he has given us a lot on and off the field but we will probably get more on the field from Travis.
I am happy with the trade but I hope Heritier comes back to the club when he retires. _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |

Been much as my Cats supporter associates predicted. His good is very good but expect him to go missing from time to time. If anything, he's probably exceeded my expectations. |

I agree. I like the way Varcoe has fitted in. _________________ You can keep your Locketts. There was only ONE Gordon Coventry! |

Good to see Travis Varcoe play his best game this round
Whether he can do it against the best teams is yet to be shown _________________ woodsmen rule |

I watched most of the Dees game yesterday and H spent a lot of time running around, doing not much. I think he's well past his prime, which was very good, whereas Varcoe seems to be coming into the best form of his career. Crucially, Varcoe is a few years younger, so for mine, we're well in front with this deal. |

He gives us some class , he frustrates me at times, but i think his cool head and games in finals will be a huge asset to our younger blokes as well. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

doesn't come with the baggage that Harry carried.
Not sure if it is a win. I will wait to the end of the season. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Travelling interstate was always hard for him , was often on the TAA plane. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".
