This year is a fixture unlike any other & you really can't compare it to other years.
Having said that if we win next week that will make things a bit more interesting. Damn it, we shouldn't have lost to the tigers.
I watched a fair bit of the swans hawks game - wow that was in a different league |
Correct weight.
I think a better way of looking at it in some regards is to take a look at the teams we've played against thus far compared to the same time last year after 8 games.
At this stage last year we'd also beaten Essendon and Carlton so that get's us a tick.
We had played Richmond and won so that's a cross.
We lost to Adelaide so that's on par.
We lost to Geelong albeit a much narrower defeat so that's on par.
So last year against those 5 teams we were 3-2 this year it's 2-3.
Now we get to games against clubs we are yet to play.
As we all know Freo took us to the cleaners in round 1 and given there form this season thus far hard to see us beating them so that's on par.
We got Sydney at a good time last year in round 2 and surprised a few in winning. We have a good record against them but it'll be harder this time around you feel. I'll say a loss so that's a cross but with an *.
Now it comes to this weeks clash against North and it's important.
We defeated them comfortably last season when viewed by many as the underdogs and it's a tag we probably deserve again given they have defeated both Geelong and Richmond this season.
If we lose to them it will be a cross and mean we'll slip to 2-4 compared to 4-2 at the same time last season against the same sides.
I like most feel we've taken a step in the right direction this season in terms of our game style, structures and desire indicators but in reality if we lose to North on top of the Tigers we haven't improved quite as much as our competition it would seem at this stage. _________________ He's mad. the point of the thread is not our performance relative to anything, it's about whether we can use this round's top eight positions as a pointer to the final eight like in previous years.
wpt makes a good point about this year's fixture but given the inequitable state of the fixture every year does it really matter? _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

so, according to danny frawley (on the bounce) history suggests only one change occurs to the eight as it is now and the last round. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

^^Heard that often but not sure it's true. I know we were in the 8 at this time last year.
This season: I'd be very surprised if North and Power were missing the 8, mildly so if the Cats and Bombers did. _________________ Well done boys! |

I hope we make the 8. But it's not really the main objective this year imo.
Main objective is to develop the kids and get the game plan down pat.
The finals is just a potential bonus.
BTW I don't think we'll make it. But would be wrapped to be wrong. |

it's very congested with 7th through 12th all on 16 points. north has the lowest oercentage which may almost equate to a game's worth. only two games separates 5th and 14th. the afl have engineered it well this time. some less than average performances by teams you wouldn't expect have also added to the intrigue. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

After Port's loss to Richmond they will have a struggle to make the eight now. Top four has certainly gone. Meanwhile our loss last week can be put into some perspective. We are not doing too badly at all at 5 and 3. Most of us would have gladly taken that at the start of the season. _________________ You can keep your Locketts. There was only ONE Gordon Coventry! |

If the draw was more random than a 'fix'ture the 8 round sample might be meaningful as an indicator for the finals top 8. However, we have a fixture and a very tainted one at that with teams playing those around their previous positions more often. And of course there is the trust given to Frawley's memory…
So… does the heuristic hold much weight? I would suggest not!
