A win we desperately needed after two straight losses. The Gold Coast are a terrible side but that was a professional performance. Our performance wasn't great but a lot to like and build on heading into next week.
If Frost has only got a corked thigh that's a relief because he'll be a big loss if he cannot play against North Melbourne.
Congrats to Pendles for 200 marvellous games and a great 200th game as he was terrific today. Jesse White and Travis Varcoe played their best matches of the year and hopefully they maintain that next week. Relief to have Sidebottom back in the side but he did look rusty but he'll improve soon enough.
5-3 after round 8! I'll take that! _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 |

Good win Pies… Faz added needed x-factor up forward and Jessie White had a good game I think Jessie has been looking like he was about to break the shackles the last few weeks so I am rapt he has finally delivered on the scoreboard.
Really like Cloke further up the ground and getting Faz, Elliot and others to kick for goals - they are all good kicks!!!
Before Toovey went down last week Varcoe was looking really dangerous and again this week he is really doing well behind the ball and still bobbing up for a goal here or there - a good pick up!
Nice percentage booster and we continue to win the games we should win… _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

A very good win! The response after the second quarter lapse was perfect.
Picking the best 5 will be impossible this week, had too many top contributors. Great to have Sidey back in the side and the performances of Varco and White were particularly pleasing. _________________ Well done boys! |

A much improved 2nd half performance against what must be said are weak opposition at present.
We need a scalp now and North would be a decent one. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

What a game from Varcoe !
29 disposals @ 100% effective.
Goldy also 100% for his 24 disposals. _________________ Donny.

The best thing about the game was:
- Jamie found some real form
- Varcoe had a breakout game
- White found some form
- Williams has hit top stride
- Sidey although sloppy looks fit and improves us immensely
- Faz had a strong
- Once again the fwd line looked better when Cloke roamed and we looked at other targets
- in the second half we rediscovered the defensive game from three weeks ago _________________ Magpies love pies(Lol) |

Good win.
As great as Pendles and Swan were it was great to see the likes of Elliott, White, Varcoe, Oxley, Williams and Crisp really play well too.
Hopefully Frosty isn't too bad and we move forward with a 5-3 record.
Nice start to the year. |

Very happy with that win. You can only beat the cattle rolled out against you and we did it comprehensively. Still in the mix for a finals spot, but that's not the point at this stage. Just learn how to put the pedal down when we are on top of teams. Nearly 80 points. That'll do.
Well done Scott Pendlebury. Another outstanding game for number 200.
The other special mention: The Collingwood Football Club for releasing two people to coach opposition sides into oblivion.
First Mick Malthouse - that's working a treat.
Second Rodney Eade- well done for letting him break his contract with us Ed because he's now wreaking his havoc on the Gold Coast. I believe he has a book coming out later in the year entitled, How to Destroy a Promising Young Team 101.
Seriously can anyone see any semblance of a game plan at the Suns that is anywhere close to the way McKenna had them playing? For justice's sake I think McKenna's sacking and the appointment of Eade was disgraceful. Now they are all reaping what they have sowed. Eade cannot coach - if he ever really could, becuase the only results he ever got were mediocre with teams filled with good players.
Well done tonight Collingwood for restoring our faith in the game. _________________ You can keep your Locketts. There was only ONE Gordon Coventry! |

Been looking for something like that from White for some time, taking into account the slightness of his direct opponent that would translate to 2 goals against a decent opponent.
Don't know what to think of Jamie atm but my word his best is very, very good.
Varcs seems to be building to something very nice indeed.
Marsh has to be a roughy for next week against the moaners. |

Workmanlike performance against a team that for the most looked liked they didn't want to be there, like the Carlton game minus the spite.
Varcoe was fantastic, White did what it says on the box, Elliott was great, a pretty good show all round _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"

A useful win but the opposition wasn't up to much. Very pleased with Varcoe's game - how many Collingwood players have registered 100% kicking efficiency in a game lately? White stepped up also. Most players benefited from a distinct lack of field pressure. However its easy to monster the bottom sides but we have to step up next week and beat North for it to mean something I think. _________________ We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Good win, although it has to be said, against very weak opposition.Great games by White, and Varcoe especially.Maybe they weren't such bad pick ups after all.It was good to see Faz back, and he played well too.He just needs to do that against the better sides, though. |

Thank the Lord
After visiting my uncle in Melbourne who has terminal illness, and getting some other bad news concerning my family, I went to the MCG on a Friday night only to see the Moggies play the perfect first half of football. I was feeling a bit like old King Lear out in the storm...
So thank you Collingwood for cheering me up. Now for the replay, plus Hawks v Swans tonight, Newcastle United to avoid the high jump and more positive stuff for the future.
